Thompson's Opera House in Pioche This page is about the historic Thompson Opera House in Pioche, Nevada. It was purchased in 1891 by Arthur S. It was then renamed Thompson’s Opera House.

The Opera House, originally built by Aleck Brown and then known as Brown’s Hall, opened in 1873 at the peak of Pioche’s mining boom. Thompson, and received some renovation including the floor and stage. Arthur died in 1905, but his sons Charles and Frank took over the Opera house continuing the renovations and increasing its use. The Opera House has seen many uses over the years including performa

nces, community meeting hall, movie theater, and dance hall. It was the original movie theater in Pioche, and received the name of “Gem Theater” in the mid 1930’s when it transitioned from showing silent movies to “talkies”. After Frank Thompson built the new Gem next door exclusively as a movie theater, the use of the Opera House declined, and it was eventually closed in the mid 1940’s. Lincoln County, Nevada received ownership of the Opera House in 1991, and began renovating the building through a series of grants. The Opera House reopened to the public in 2009.
