Packing up Christmas and Fall semester materials and cleaning/decluttering is not unusual for me to do at this time of year at school. But this time it's a lot different...
Many of you have now heard that after 11 1/2 years, I am leaving Pinson at the end of this week to begin a job at another school in January. I wish the timing was better but suffice it to say that the Lord's timing doesn't always line up with ours. But it's always best.
The reasons vary, but the pathway has been made clear to me. To say that I will miss my time with my students, choir activities, and investing in the Pinson community would be a gross understatement. But I am looking forward to a fresh opportunity to build a program much like what I've done in Pinson, with a shorter commute. The school is Pelham High School (and Pelham Park MS). Here, I'll get to express my passion for music advocacy in my own end of town.
Leaving is hard. Here is why...
1. My students have been absolutely amazing this semester and I have so enjoyed watching them grow.
2. This isn't the first time I have said goodbye to Pinson. I left in 2000 after my first 5 yrs of teaching. I was called away to Christian education for a while but it landed me right back here in 2013 to learn that my ministry is in the public schools.
3. Many choir programs have a "revolving door" of directors. I'm the only one my students have ever known. The bond is tight and struggle is real.
4. The families and community have won my heart. Many of you have cheered, supported, sacrificed, and fought for everything that we've attempted to accomplish. And, thanks to you, we enjoyed much success and several "dreams" became a reality. Pinson will indeed always be a special place to me.
Whether you're a current student, parent, or alumn from the past 29 years, I would love to see you! Please drop by if you can.
I will continue to post on this page for a while so this isn't goodbye on Insta just yet! I'd love to repost any of your sentiments about your time with the choir if you mention . Also feel free to keep in touch via my personal account .o.timothy.
Thank you all and I hope you feel all the LOVE!! 🥰🎶
