Everyone was tucked into the green room at before Popcorn & Punchlines.
If you’ve ever wondered what a room full of comics sounds like, it was exactly what you’d expect: stories, punchlines, discussions about which jokes were working, and a steady stream of one-liners.
Sierra started doing stand-up in college as an outlet for comedy writing. She wanted to write for television, especially sketch shows like SNL, and stand-up was the closest thing she could find locally.
“I look back at old notebooks and laugh at some of the things I thought could have been jokes.”
What stood out most in our conversation was her perspective on success.
“A little delusion helps.”
Stand-up is a craft built on repetition, perseverance, and a willingness to keep going long before anyone notices.
“Don’t get caught up in saying everything perfectly. Have fun with it.”
At 25, Sierra is balancing writing, performing, chasing gigs, and preparing for her next chapter.
This summer, she’s moving to New York City to pursue what she loves most: writing comedy.
“There can be pressure to fit into whatever lane is supposed to work. It’s important to be uniquely yourself and have your own point of view.”
You can meet Sierra this Saturday at Burnt Sugar Comedy, where we’ll interview her, watch her perform, and use her set as inspiration for the scenes that follow.
And if you want to support your local comics, follow them, see them perform, and stop by the open mics where they’re figuring it all out in real time.
