******Rescheduled for April 16’th*********

Update: Unfortunately, Covid has struck the band so we are forced to reschedule for 4/16/22. If you bought tickets for this show, Lorraine’s will still honor them for this Saturday’s “Lorraine’s Legends” show, or she will honor them for the new date on 4/16. If neither option works for you please contact the venue.

We hope you’ll still join us on 4/16, and let’s hope this surge is over and we can gather safely and enjoy each other’s company. Apologies, no one is more disappointed than us.

**********************************************

I had a meeting with Lorraine’s Coffee House in Garner tonight. Lorraine has invited us to do a “Ice House Take Over” of her great venue on Saturday, January 29th! We (Erin and Phil) will be your host for the evening!

That’s right! For one night we’re going to setup the Mattock Stage again in Lorraine’s Coffee House. And guess who’s going to be on that stage? A full “Without Further Ado Reunion” complete with Jessica, Sarah, Clyde, Carroll, Dex, and Phil (honoring Lynn Parker). It’s been years since this full group has performed together so this is shaping up to be a special night!

Get your tickets early cause there’s limited room! Link to tickets in the comments!

Hello friends! Wanted to pass the word that our good friends The Malpass Brothers have a rare local show at the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center this Friday night!

Last minute tickets to a Malpass Brothers Show is rarer than a steel guitar solo on country radio, but I heard through the grapevine that the venue just released a flood of last minute tickets, so there are some GREAT GREAT seats available to be snatched up.

Erin and I (Phil) are looking forward to the show, so come out and find us to say hello! The boys were an Ice House favorite, and always sold out! They JUST appeared on The Grand Ole Opry so don’t miss your chance to see them local!

Hello friends! It’s been a long time. Erin and I have been playing around with some live broadcasts from our house while we are all stuck inside and not able to enjoy live music.

We would like to invite you to join us for a virtual “Ice House” Friday night at 8pm, here on this page! We’d love to have you join us as we play some songs and tell some stories! If it goes well, maybe we can get some of the other Ice House musical talent to jump in and share their talents with us in the future

Very sad to learn that our good friend Mr Keene passed this week. From the first night we opened, he was there every night his health allowed with a smile on his face. I always loved speaking with him for a few minutes about his love of music and what he had been up to that week. He always slipped out at intermission and I asked him finally why and he said softly “my son worries if I’m out too late and I don’t want him to worry”. He loved his family and we spent a few hours when I visited him once talking about them and how he gifted one of his guitars to one of the youngsters. That was Mr Keene, his family the only thing he loved more than music.

I hope you have a different jam session every night Mr Keene. I look forward to hopefully playing one with you.

Service is on Saturday at 3pm in Kenly.

Hello Country Music Lovers,

We hoped this letter would come to you with exciting news about our opening day. We thought, by now, the town of Pine Level would be ringing with country music and laughter from all of my hysterical and well-delivered jokes every Friday. However, we never imagined we would be where we are now. We fought the Pine Level Zoning and Planning Board just to be able to occupy that space. We explained that this a great community who can come together and listen to music without alcohol, without fighting—just country music.

After we had obtained a permit to build bathrooms, in the middle of construction of the bathrooms, an inspector told us to stop and hire an engineer to plot out everything, including the stage, and tell us what else needed to be done so we could be code compliant. We were also required to obtain a “Change of Use” permit. So, we hired an engineer and then met with the inspectors and the fire chief who told what needed to be done. While we were changing the doors and adding lights, our engineer ended up in ICU. So, before those drawings could be approved and sealed, we were told to take apart the stage and add bracing, which we did. We also removed years of dirt and grime, cleaned, painted and sealed the walls, framed out the bathrooms, fixed leaks and ceiling damage, and various other repairs.

Then, we got a fax from the inspection’s office. that said we must build a 26 foot handicapped ramp for access to the stage in order to be ADA compliant. There is not enough room for that ramp and several thousand dollars had already been spent on building the stage. We asked if we could rent a lift to accommodate performers in wheelchairs, but were told “no, it has to be permanent.” We requested a meeting with the inspection’s office for clarification and then informed that we needed to install water fountains, an assisted listening sound system and additional outside exit lights. All of this brought us to a very frustrated place since we had met with the inspectors on previous occasions. Each time we met with them they kept adding additional requirements (and we still hadn’t finished the bathrooms!) This began to feel like the 9 months of hard work, the repairs made possible by donations from all of you, the money we put in, meant nothing. We thought that we could do these last things if that’s all that the town and county required, that we could somehow figure it out. However, we needed to know that if we continued to put money into the music hall, it would mean we could actually open.

Here comes the hard part. The county said, in addition to everything else, they would not accept the gas heaters already in place and that we needed to have an HVAC system installed. That is simply something we can not afford. So, unfortunately, and with tears in our eyes, we tell you that we fought the good fight, but have come to the conclusion we cannot afford to continue our efforts to give you a place where you can come to enjoy the music and the fellowship we’ve known over the years. It just seems the “powers that be” are content with fighting us every step of the way. If we knew all of this was needed back in April (when we first met with the inspector) we never would have signed a lease, asked for money, or started repairs. We are devastated.

We have always been open and honest with you all and we hate giving up, but we have no other option. We plan on returning every dollar given so generously by our donors starting this month. Please bear with us and forgive us if it takes just a little bit of time to get it back to you. We never took a penny for ourselves, it all went into the building, and I guess foolishly we invested it in the building right away. We just ask for your patience as we begin refunding your donations this month.

We are so sorry that we promised you a place for real country music again and we couldn’t deliver on that promise. We understand if you are upset with us, just please know we did our best to make this happen.

I hope we find ways to all see each other again. We hate to give up but just don’t know what else to do and definitely didn’t want to keep you all wondering.

Sincerely,

Phil and Erin Wise

This is amazing! Half way to our goal and we have been shocked at the love you all have shown us. Please know, if you don’t have that money do NOT stress or feel bad, your prayers are just as appreciated. This isn’t meant to make anyone feel guilty, we know you all give us all you can and that will always been appreciated, your love and support is what is needed most. We are gonna give you a new home for country music and it’s gonna be wonderful because the magic is where you all bring it! The magic is where the music happens. The magic is that we are a community who makes you feel like family and cares about each other. The magic is because you can bring your family and know you are surrounded by good people. The magic is because Merle and Waylon and Emmylou and Patsy and freaking Clyde Mattocks music is played with respect and adoration. This is gonna happen y’all because it’s all magic and that’s what REAL country folks do...they survive!

Hi Guys, enjoyed seeing you last evening at Lorraine's... Donk's Theatre Virginia Li'l Ole Opry is what I mentioned to you both... they have a FB page.
You know there may be an out of the box way to get things going. Is there a housing community or rental community in the area that would let you use their party room or rec space for concerts on a Friday night? Some charge a rent. some may do it if you allow residences to come free.
Mr Doug & I REALLY need to get back to having a Friday night place to go....lawn mowing and laundry is NOT how we prefer to spend our Friday nights ! !
I want to make reserveations for friday night. Jean Stewart
