We cannot thank you all enough for the support our little community has shown us once again! We made some big changes this year in order to make things run smoother and there will always be things we need to change as we grow. It was far from perfect and it never will be, but I was able to walk around this year and I saw and heard perfect things! I saw friends and families gathered together, laughter and children playing with one another. To me this is what Christmas is all about!! This world is so busy and divided and watching the world slow down and come together for a minute is such a beautiful gift! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts and Merry Christmas.

The year we began farming out here the kids and I would bring J.R. dinner while he picked late into the evenings. The further we’d get from town the darker the road would get but the stars always got brighter. When we got to this old dirt road where he was picking we’d slow down, roll down the windows and look at the sky. The stars were so bright, I felt like I could see just about every single star God put in that night sky. We have talked about updating the name of the road over the years and had a few different names in mind. I asked the kids what they thought we should name the road and we all kept coming back to Starry Lane. The county came out last week and put up our new sign. I think it’s pretty fitting and it reminds me of that first year when my kids were all little and we’d look at those stars in the sky and wait for our farmer to come back down the field for dinner.

We lit up our mural this week! A big thanks to for installing five barn lights over the mural to brighten it up. Last night we put the bulbs in and my family was all smiles as we stood back and admired it. This wall used to be grey, dark and dirty but about two years ago we had paint this giant mural for us and it’s one of my favorite things at the barn.

A little story about how the name Star Barn was chosen for our venue. In my early college days my roommate told me about a cute boy named Jar, my first thought was who would name their kid Jar? When I finally met him I learned that this was his nickname and just about everybody called him by it. Still to this day his friends call him Jar. We started dating during those popular years of celebrity names and we, Steph and Jar, became Star after a few months of dating. There was no question when we talked about venue names that Star Barn was perfect for this place that we would build together.

We were so lucky to have Brandt Woods paint this amazing ghost mural for us and Marquette Mower capture a beautiful photo of it.

We are J.R. and Stephanie Howard. We started farming out here at Red Knolls in 2018 and felt such a strong connection to this place. After lots of hard work and prayer we were blessed to buy this ground. A couple of old barns came with this property and in 2020 we decided we’d bring one of our dreams to life and turn these barns into an event venue. What a blessing it has been for our family! We truly love this barn and the farm that surrounds it. Our wish is that this be a place where family and friends can gather and special memories will be made.
