After 6 great years of running Fright at the Museum, it has officially come to a close.
This fundraiser was conceived as a way to repair and restore the WM Carter Farm Museum. That goal has been achieved thanks to the community’s support and a grant from United Way of Graham & Greenlee Counties. We want to express our gratitude for the volunteers that made Fright at the Museum possible, and to all of you who attended over the years. It was an incredible experience to be a part of!
We don’t have the words to express our gratitude for your support, and we are just as sad as you are to see this tradition ending. It has become a part of the Gila Valley’s Halloween traditions and we’re sad to see it go.
A few quick Q&A
Why are you not doing it again?
The building is being used to house museum artifacts and pieces. With a new roof and electrical, the building will no longer be practical as a venue for the haunt.
Will you move to another location?
We considered trying to relocate to another venue. Issues of liability, safety, and practicality made it hard to find a location. Construction for the haunt usually started in September and went non-stop until opening night. Having proper electrical and protection from the weather during construction makes it hard to find suitable venues.
Will you do something else instead?
Yes, there are plans to return to our Chili Cook-Off that was previously hosted every October. We paused doing the cook-off while the haunted house was happening. We know these are completely different events, but we hope the community will continue to support the Eastern Arizona Museum & Historical Society by attending and participating.
What will we do for our Halloween tradition?
We know attending the haunt on Halloween night was a community favorite. The lines outside were a testament to this! So, we will have the main museum open on Halloween night and will be there dressed up and ready to receive your trick or treaters with strobes on, costumes on, music on and lights low. Come tour the museum in a spooky setting on Halloween! Stay for a while, or get a treat and go. We know it’s not the same as the haunted house, but we’ll keep the tradition of visiting the museum on Halloween night alive. See ya there!
