Our collection of fans and supporters in bluegrass music is filled with people who are generous, loving, kind, and enthusiastic about our music.

Because Allen Styx Hicks embodied all of those characteristics, he became a beloved and recognizable figure in bluegrass. As I was thinking about how to honor him, I searched through photos and posts and doing so makes it clear just how many people were impacted by this special person.

It’s a Who’s Who of bluegrass music. From the most recognized artists to fans he’d just met. And it seems his videos captured all the big moments, including those in Piketon.

That big smile let you know that he was genuinely happy to see you and we’ll all miss him.

We’d like to send our condolences to his family during this difficult time. The hope is that the outpouring of support that has already been exhibited brings some comfort to those who knew him best.

RIP friend. This festival season, we’ll share our stories about Styx and honor him the best way we know how, with the love and gratitude toward him that he always showed to others.

Why Wouldn’t Ya?

- Rick Greene
