Ashley Nicole Stenson was more than the victim in a tragic headline.

She was a 42-year-old mother, grandmother, daughter, friend, and hardworking woman who was described by loved ones as fun, loyal, welcoming, and someone who never met a stranger.

On May 8, 2026, Ashley was shot and killed during what police described as a domestic dispute in Peoria, Illinois. Authorities identified the man involved as Cortez Lamarr White, 41. Police say Cortez shot Ashley before fleeing and was later fatally shot by a responding officer.

This story is another painful reminder of how quickly domestic violence can turn deadly.
