Pierre Outdoor Painters came inside tonight for our first life drawing session! Our friends came from out of town and dressed up as an 1880s sheriff and his wife. Aren't they perfect for the role?

I'll have to work on my painting some more, but I'm happy with the start I made. So much fun!

Our first POPS indoor modeling session was a resounding success and so much fun! Some friends from out of town came dressed as an 1880s sheriff and his wife. I’ll have to spend some more time on mine, but it’s a good start!

In other news, look at these huge carrots we harvested this season! They weren't even in full sun! And this is only half our harvest.

Funny how some crops, like tomatoes, really didn't like that summer heat wave. And we did have more bolting than usual in our carrots. But the ones that stuck it out without bolting were for the most part bigger than usual! We can feed a family on just one carrot 🥕😎

WE'RE BACK IN SESSION!

Last night we kicked off a new season of art classes!

This year I've distilled my art classes down to just one class. Currently I have 5 dedicated students ranging in age from 11 years to adult, and we dove right into what is arguably the most important aspect of representational art: COMPOSITION.

It was a good start to what I expect will be another rewarding year. Take a look at these beautiful 1 1/2 hour charcoal studies!

This buyer purchased 3 fine art matte paper prints and put them in matching mats and frames under glass. I really enjoy how she grouped them together on her wall, three different aspects of South Dakota complimenting each other.

Thank you to everyone who sends me photos of what you do with my artwork. It's rewarding seeing them, and I love sharing with my followers all the many ways art can elevate a living space.

Message me if you see something you're interested in. All three of these are available for prints.

This also makes me happy!

Ross Keegan, Senior Director of CHS, ordered two, 18x24 gallery wrap canvas prints of "The Grain Elevator." He hung one in the CHS office here in Pierre and another in his office at their headquarters in Gettysburg. How cool is that?

Message me for your options if you're interested in a print of your own.

Wow. I was curious, so I counted them up, and I've sold 15 "Zesto on a Friday Night" prints since painting (and selling) the original less than two months ago. Who knew?

Anyone else? Let's make it 16! 🍦

What in the world? I'm outside on this brisk fall day clearing out my garden and my white lilacs are blooming! (At the same time that the purple ones right next to them are losing their leaves!)

The shape is a bit stunted, but still...it was a nice surprise to see them.

They didn't even bloom this spring because of the late freeze we had.

Pierre Mayor Todd Johnson purchased a 9x12 gallery wrap canvas print of "Zesto on a Friday Night" in a gold and black float frame and posted this photo of his wife Terri holding it, and then sent me the photo of it hanging in his office.

He posted: "I wasn't able to get the original, but Charlene was able to get me a a print on canvas that is just as good. Terri worked at ZESTO in highschool and I have great memories stopping to see her....Two paintings down one to go."

It's great to have a mayor who appreciates art! Thank you so much Todd and Terri Johnson!
