When I got laid off from my corporate job, 4 months pregnant after over 13 years at the company, I truly thought my life would catch fire and cease to exist.

Luckily instead of doom and gloom, I was supported by friends, family, and colleagues alike to help me reimagine what success might look like. I decided to close a chapter that I thought would write the entire story of my life and embark on a most unanticipated journey.

Little did I know, Rosie would be the catalyst for so many new beginnings. Yesterday I was lucky enough to celebrate her first birthday, it was the most beautiful bookend to a chapter I didn’t know had an ending.

Today, I usher in a new era of my business as I launch a full rebrand into the Family Bee Collective. It is a unique kind of privilege to have an entire village stand behind you during what feels like the worst time of your life. I pledge to always give back to worthy causes that help bring light to situations that can feel so dark. While the name has changed, the mission to do good remains the same. 10 months of Rosie 🤍

Wow. How does the time keep passing so quickly?! Rosie is such a joyful, sweet little girl. Every morning we walk out to the wildflowers growing in our backyard and she waves to them, we say ‘ good job growing flowers!’ Based on how they are blooming, I think the encouragement is working!

It seems like she’s starting to understand that her dad and I think she’s funny. She really loves when we laugh at her and she starts to do those behaviors over and over again!

A few things have stayed the same over the last few months, Rosie LOVES her doggos, they bring her so much joy! Too many loud barks are overwhelming, so we do try to avoid too much of that 😅 Food is life. Do not eat in front of this baby if you’re unwilling to give her a bite or you will most certainly be hearing about it!!

It’s so crazy how quickly your child’s face changes. She isn’t even a year old and I feel like she is a complete different person! What will she be like when she’s 5, or 18, or 40??!! It just all happens so quickly, what I can say for sure, is that I love her more than anything in this world and I can’t wait to keep watching her grow. 🤍✨

Owning your own business is a bit of a wild ride. Sometimes it feels like you can’t keep items in stock and sometimes you feel like begging people to buy your work. It’s a particularly vulnerable journey to embark on with such unpredictable ups and downs.

These last few markets I have participated in were plagued by bad weather: temperatures so hot you felt like your skin might melt off and lightening storms that are rather unwelcome in a filed of metal tents. On Saturday I felt so sad and defeated. Luckily I have an incredible support system behind me. Not 5 minutes after I texted that I was struggling and in the verge of tears, who do you think came walking up the hill to cheer me on…Bryn. And she brought a whole gaggle of gals with her. As if that wasn’t enough, she also sent me this cutie little video because she knows I’m trying to stay active in social through the chaos of life!

It’s taken me a long time to learn I don’t have to do everything by myself, it’s ok to ask for help and in no way an indication of my capability.

Owning a small business might be really hard, but having an endless outpouring of support from people who care for me fills the encouragement cup and helps me stay focused and motivated.
