Heerspink and Porter Pottery is located in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, just north of Cedarville and Hessel in the Les Cheneaux Islands. We make a wide range of stoneware pottery using local materials in our glazes including ashes from our wood stove and clay from the Pickford area (a small farming town just north of our workshop).

It’s been quite a while since we last posted anything and this may seem to be an unlikely way to come out of our hibernation but we wanted to share a slice of life in the Upper Peninsula in early Spring!! This is our wood fired kiln on day two of an ice, wind and snow storm surrounded by ice slush and two foot snow drifts. The long winters here can be a bit challenging at times but we love the quiet, wild beauty of the UP and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else❤️
