The last Krishna Peacock Swallowtail I painted was done in 2024. Personally, I find them to be very beautiful butterflies! Also, somewhat difficult to depict as the green over black is largely accomplished by a stipple technique. I have never seen a live specimen ( these swallowtails are found in the forests of China, Myanmar, Vietnam, and NE India) so I rely solely on photos to depict them. In some photos they appear to be predominantly black while others have a predominantly green cast. This may be attributed to lighting in any given photo, but other factors may enter into the mix: variations in subspecies; seasonal phenotypes, and even, in rare cases, dimorphism!
Still, it’s hard to find one more beautiful than this! Add in my strong preference for artistic interpretation, and there you have it!!
