Just assembled the last Eastern Dragon in my WIPs pile, which always seems to be growing ever larger). This girl seems have both a distinctly feminine feel with a touch of fiery strength. She will be my last dragon scarf (Eastern or Western) for a bit. I am pursuing a spring and summer filled with aquatic horror creations and it’s never too early to lean into spooky season!

Another baby gator assembled! I modified my gator scarf pattern to make single gators that you can drape over your shoulder if you so choose. I make baby gators from that modified pattern by working them up in size 40 thread from … if you scroll through the pics you will see a bloody shredded skin choker with one of these mini gators as ornamentation. Sinister ornamentation is my jam so I am pretty satisfied with the results!

Just off the blocking boards…a new piranha colorway (a little bit inspired by spooky season) and a new design…a rather fancy little sardine! Both are worked up with Dream in Color’s Smooshy Cashmere and some Koigu KPPPM stash yarn. I do have big plans for these rather elevated fishies. Hence the yarn choice. What’s on your blocking board? Do tell!

A few years ago I designed a piranha motif pattern. Needless to say I made a small school of them and piled them in a box because I became a bit of a nomad for a while. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I received a box filled with from Dream in Color Yarn (see last few pics of the latest edition to the piranha gang). The yarn scream, “I MUST BECOME A FISH WITH TEETH.” I hear that soft and beautiful yarn. The cashmere fishy is a few inches larger than the size 10 thread versions and it is soft as…well…cashmere. Me thinks I will figure out how to work the cashmere versions into a scarf or shawl (along with a few gnawed on body parts in the cashmere). I may have lost my mind completely. I’ll give you that, but hey it keeps me occupied and gives my worries a respite as the trash fire we live in spreads.

Finished assembling another scarf. What can I say about this stash buster? The face went through 4 design iterations before settling on this version. I rather like it. No complaints. I didn’t buy any yarn to make this. Shopped my own stash. Yay me! Why am I making animal scarves at this point in my horror filled yarn curriculum? Well, I figured these would be fun gifts for birthdays and holidays. I really did endeavor to make this easy on myself and source patterns by other designers. I saw some really fun ones out there, but per the usge, they just didn’t quite fit the aesthetic I was looking for. So, here we are!

Just finished working up a new design…The Fox Spirit Scarf! This one happens to be scrap driven. My initial design was much simpler (I had enough yarn in a certain colorway to create the original design). This one is a scraptastic example of using different stash yarns (not enough of one colorway to get the job done) which forced me to solution through my bits and bobs color conundrum. I really love the results. Working through these creative challenges is helping me keep my sanity in times that feel overwhelming and incredibly sad. Needless to say, I have my version of the red protest hat coming…a very strong and fire filled red dragon.

Morphed my western winged dragon scarf into an example of the eastern variety. I have to say that this beauty really makes me happy. I alternated between solid color “Paprika” and a striped color “Spice Cabinet”. Yarn is Knit Picks Brava worsted, a work horse yarn for me. Anyway, this sweet dragon feels rather magical to me. The perfect accessory to sport during Chinese New Year!
