I’m getting ready to write a short story for my accordion house. I have a self-imposed policy for naming characters and that is, I use the first one that comes to me. So this man is Carlisle Buchanan. It turns out that there is a “famous” man on Wikipedia named Alexander Carlisle Buchanan. Was he buried in my brain? I really don’t want to change my character’s name. But should I? Side note: I found a container of watch parts in my jewelry-making stash. Used a watch winding k**b for the hot pink door!

With the hot weather coming this week, I think it’s a good time for me to finish this little accordion house. I’ve decided to write a very short story to accompany it and I have to figure out how to attach the story to this little book. It’s been a fun project.

I haven't been working on any art lately but an online class I took this week has inspired me. It's called Accordion Houses offered by Scottish mixed media artist Jack Ravi. One of the best bits of advice he gave is "use what you have."
I decided to make an accordion house for an interesting-looking man in my vintage photo collection.
Step one is to create the base out of watercolor paper and then begin embellishing with papers.

Local artists have a new opportunity to share their work, as a new art center is under serious consideration in Royersford, PA. Initially there will be a two-day-only “pop up” show at Royersford Commons on March 20 and 21. It is across from Handel’s Ice Cream. Follow Royersford Community Art Center to stay up to date on this new organization’s progress in finding a permanent home. And don’t hesitate to stop by next week.

On Friday, December 5, 5 to 7 pm, two of my encaustic collages will be hanging in the Pottstown Area Artist Guild's member show. Held at the Montgomery County Community College, North Hall Gallery, 16 E. High St., Pottstown, PA 19464
At 6 pm, I've been asked to speak about my work for a few minutes.
I wrote out a nice, normal speech, so I could time it (3 minutes), but now that I found out they will be introducing me, it gives me a little more time. Sort of frees me up to be more creative (and honest).

The gift-giving season is nearly upon us, and I don't know about you, but I find it tough to find something cool to give to the men on my list. I think this encaustic collage would be a great gift for the right guy.
Freshly listed on my website this morning at $159. It is professionally framed, wired, and ready to hang. https://www.hollycusumano.com/product-page/rusty-lauder
P.S. I was so excited when I found the vintage photo of this man I've named "Rusty Lauder." I knew immediately that I would pair him up with the clockwork hat invention I saw in an old issue of "Scientific American."

I'm pleased to announce that my encaustic collage, featuring the vintage portrait of an unknown young man I've named "Alvin Hertenstein," has been accepted into the upcoming gallery show at The Silly Little Art Shop, Phoenixville, PA, to be held beginning Friday, November 14 and running through the month of December. All the work featured at this show will be priced under $150.
I really like this waxy piece that I created of Alvin. He's got dark curly hair, kind eyes, and wearing a dapper suit with a real (doll clothes-sized) button encased in the wax. I envisioned the background as a somewhat modern (1960s?) pattern made from cut paper with black diamonds and orange space-age ellipses. You can hear Alvin's childhood backstory on my website. It's super short "flash fiction."

If you are in downtown Phoenixville this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, stop by Art on Bridge. It’s across from the Colonial Theatre.

My gallery contract ends on Monday so this will be the final few days to see it in person. The last time I was in the gallery, a man looking at my artwork said out loud and to no one in particular “who are these people?“ I was standing nearby so I replied “they are my posse.” It’s fun being an artist. People expect you to be a little different.
