Opening tomorrow night: PEPPERMINT BEEHIVE, a play about puppets, q***r punks in love, and the gentrification of downtown Phoenix.

Friday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm, and we're doing TWO shows on Saturday- a 2pm matinee and a 7:30pm show. Since we're doing two shows on Saturday, we're doing a Buy One Get One free deal for that day. Just enter the code PUPPETS at checkout.

Come to our Sunday, May 24th performance of Peppermint Beehive for a post-show talkback with puppet designer Amy Carpenter about the many, many strange people and creatures she built for the show. Some of Amy's puppets have details so minute you can't see them from the audience, so this is your one chance to get a real up close look at these marvelous, weird, fun beings.

We're proud to announce our next production, opening May 22nd at Metro Arts: "Peppermint Beehive," the latest play by Zoni Award-winning playwright Ashley Naftule. Directed by Dennis Frederick, Peppermint Beehive is a play about puppets, punks in love, maniac cops, dancing mummies, and the gentrification of downtown. Before you ask, "hey, is this play about what happened to Roosevelt Row-" yes, yes it is. To quote the legend Gareth Marengi: "I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards."

Peppermint Beehive stars Sarafina Starling, Ashley Belle Vasquez, Madeleine Miller, Logan Watters, Marcella Grassa, Angela Gonzalez, Tommy Cannon, and Rick Larsen.

The play runs for two weekends- May 22nd through the 31st. Please note: while this show has puppets (a lot of puppets, designed by the great Amy Carpenter), it is NOT a kid-friendly show. Leave the kiddos at home unless you're a weirdo who loves having awkward conversations with your kids on the drive home.

And that's a wrap! Occupational Hazards is now enjoying a pension and cozy retirement. Space 55 wants to extend a huge thanks to Sarafina Starling, Carrie Ellen Jones, Amy Garland, and Marcella Grassa for bringing these incredible characters to life. Thanks to Rob Evans for a terrific script! Bob Peters was our diligent stage manager. Kim Porter designed some bang-up costumes. Ashley Naftule and John Perovich made this show look and sound oh-so-right. Gratitude to our board operators, Caleb Gilliam and Dilana Ayars. And a tremendous thank you to all of the Space Cadets who came out to see something new, original, local, and different. We wouldn't be a theatre without all of you ❤️
