My Story

My name is Lissa, (Melissa) and I grew up in Grants Pass and I’ve always loved to paint. Growing up, I was determined to be an artist and am grateful that I’m actually able to support myself and my 3 boys doing something I love! I opened my first studio in 2013 teaching mainly kid’s classes and while I loved it I barely broke even after studio bills so decided to add a monthly, “mom’s night out” class and it went over so well that it became a weekly class, and then before I knew it I was teaching “Wine & Brush” up to 5 times a week between my two studios (check out Wine & Brush - Phoenix too) I didn’t go to school for my art, it’s just my passion and I work very hard to come up with all my own designs and ways to make painting them easier than it looks.

My first goal is for you to have fun, and forget every day life and my second goal is for you to learn something and be proud of your work and not compare it to other’s work. I don’t go for super easy paintings, I push you a little but I believe in you and love seeing individuals learn to let go and enjoy the process more than worrying about the end result. Art is like us.. we’re our own worst critic and the sooner we learn to love ourselves (and our own art) the better because we’re all beautiful and unique and worth loving and life is worth living even though it’s not perfect. Enjoy the journey (of painting and life!) and let go of obsessing over end results. That’s when growth and joy happens. :) You can see and sign up for classes at either of my studios at www.spurlockartandwine.com Thank you!
