I'll be presenting this evening at Arizona Science Center for ARx3, the third session of Artist + Researcher that paired 8 teams of artists and scientists. "Healing Hands, Resilient Spirit" is a collaborative work I created based on the research of Dr. Pamela Rogers Bosch.
Dr. Pamela Rogers Bosch's research is focused on optimizing health and functional outcomes for adults post-stroke and along that journey there's also the role of others involved in the success of their recovery. The painting depicts the rehabilitative journey and celebrates the resilient spirit of those who have experienced a stroke. It encompasses the uncertainty at the outset of rehabilitation, the shifts and complex emotions of lost autonomy progressing along the path to regaining one's independence punctuated by moments of chaos and calm as one alternately struggles against and surrenders to the process. "Healing Hands, Resilient Spirit" is a thank you to those who have dedicated themselves to assist others.
