I spent last week at the Christmas Expo in Dallas. I met so many great people who put on amazing Christmas displays and I got lots of fun ideas for new additions to our own display. But getting back to Phoenix and a string of sweltering 110+ degree days made me start to wonder if it was instead time to scale back and not do as much of a display this year. I started dwelling on how much work it was going to take and how hard it was going to be.
Then I saw this post about how doing hard things is good and about viewing hard work not as a barrier but as a challenge. I know that, in the moment, working on the display may not be a lot of fun and it’ll be hot and it’ll hard and I’d rather be inside watching TV or whatever. But pushing through those challenges with positivity and working toward my goal will be worth it and I’ll be so glad I did it.
So I’m ready to put the planning in motion and commit to making something fun and silly and kind of weird. And I hope you’ll come see it and enjoy it and roll your eyes at some of the dumb puns and dad jokes, and say “huh?” to some of the odd little inside jokes that don’t really make any sense. I’ll be inside listening to the families exploring and laughing and making Christmas memories right there in our front yard.
