"Fishing for Dinner Down from the Spillway"

This real life genre painting was created on site, in the open air, on a sultry afternoon, avoiding disturbing the fishermen and women there. Judging from their numbers, it's a choice spot when the spillway is releasing water, so I found the scene both peaceful and a little noisy from the drone of the roiling waters. The geometric concrete and the pretty blue-green surroundings feels quite humble, but picturesque as this is an ancient scene of humans gathering sustenance from their natural surroundings, even though enhancement by modern water-maintenance measures. The original is acrylic on stretched paper, I especially like the blues and grays, as it looks like a slightly limited color palette but has everything blue needed to soothe the eye and remind us of our connection to our resources in their simplest life cycle form. This one would be beautiful in a simple silver frame, but would love to hear what you choose, when you do, and where you might put it in your home or office. Hoping this goes back to the beautiful state of Mississippi, where it can be appreciated by a collector who knows how truly beautiful the state actually is..

Today's Art Feature is " Lo Lo Mai Springs, Cornville, Arizona"

Lo Lo Mai Springs is a privately owned campground and day use facility on a beautiful mile of Oak Creek, near Sedona, Arizona. While Oak Creek itself is serene and picturesque for a long way, the spring fed pond is really a special treat, in a glade of towering trees, unusually large old cottonwoods and sycamores, the spring fed pond attracts birds, butterflies and must have supplied early inhabitants of the area with both ample clean water and wildlife, a treasure in a desert landscape. It can be crowded, but the bench swings and benches that surround the well shaded spring pond invite still observation. It's a place I hope to paint again and again. The "resort" itself can be crowded with family and feral-leaning children, but it's natural beauty is still irresistible. I'm not sure what the yellow overgrowth on the pond is, but it was shining yellow in the sunlit center of the pond from where I painted. Algae? I hope I captured the depth of the deep deep black-green water and shaded foliage dotted with slivers of sun accenting the verdure.

It's August, which means the biggest home selling season of the year is starting to wrap, and people are moving house, heading to dorms or just resettling into places they already call home and love.

Look Up the Colours of Fall

Minnesota Autumn Afternoon Sky, Orange Leaves and Telephone Wires, begun in acrylic on paper, and moved to pastels to catch the sweet intense orange and yellow leaves, the view angled upward to the telephone wire geometry and the natural branches in the same scene, man and nature juxtaposed, this is a modified version of laying in the grass and looking at the sky. I love the intensification of cerulean blue that happens to the midwestern sky in the fall. St. Cloud, Minnesota waiting for winter, hoping it doesn't hurt too bad this year...

I'm seeing a lot of artists celebrating World Photography Day today and wanted to join in on the appreciation!

It's a celebration of the way artists preserve moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Every work of art begins with the same simple act: paying attention.

Artists notice the light, the atmosphere, the emotion, the relationships, and the everyday moments that many of us walk past without a second thought.

"Natures Candies, Colours & Pansies" is part of that tradition, a still-life is the artists perception of a moment in time. Thanks for taking a moment to reflect with me today.

Happy World Photography Day!
