After the end of the imfamous underground club, Chupa!, RedMonkey launched in 1996. RedMonkey was a sporadically thrown party held in a South Pheonix bar, Riverbottom Lounge, that featured local house music heroes as well as world renowned DJs. RedMonkey was a concept conjured up by local house music souldier, Pete Salaz, who was feeling the need to continue what Chupa! had started; a place where

everyone felt comfortable regardless of race, color, or creed and held together by House music. Of course that is a simplified description...but not by much! Between 1996 and 2001, one event held the highest respect by it's peers before it mysteriously disappeared. The event took a 4 yr hiatus and returned in 2005 bigger and stronger than ever w/new team members, Hector Raul Primero, Hondo Castaneda Lmt, and Matthew Hinman. In its current form, RedMonkey saves it all up for one night a year, Thanksgiving night and is considered by many as the biggest house music event of the year in Arizona. This Saturday marks the 17th Year since the inception of Solstice. Even though I’ve had a front row seat of this most fantastic journey of house music rooftop memories, I can’t possibly summarize em all in a post…maybe a book…but not a post.
