Created in honor of Juneteenth, this piece celebrates the resilience, hope, and enduring strength of a community that has continued to rise despite generations of oppression. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans while reminding us that the pursuit of justice, equity, and freedom continues today.
Ironically, this painting faced its own unexpected challenges while it was being created. Those experiences became woven into the meaning of the piece. The punctured canvas serves as a symbol of pain, adversity, and the scars left by injustice, while the blooming flowers represent resilience, hope, and the remarkable ability to grow through even the hardest circumstances. Like the story of Juneteenth itself, this piece is ultimately about perseverance, healing, and choosing to flourish.
It was an honor to create this piece for the Juneteenth events I participated in earlier this month, and I'm grateful to everyone who stopped by, connected with the artwork, and celebrated with the community.
This original painting is now available for purchase on my website. If it speaks to you, I'd love for it to find a home where its story can continue. ❤️💛💚🖤
