This Juneteenth, we're celebrating and we want you there. Join Black Theatre Troupe on June 19 and 20 at the Helen K. Mason Performing Arts Center for a first look at our upcoming 2026-2027 season!

It was the week of Juneteenth in 1970 that our founders began preparing for the very first season that would become this organization.

Fifty-seven years later, we're marking the holiday the way we know best: showcasing the brilliant work of Black artists.

If you've seen a Black Theatre Troupe production photo that made you stop and feel something, there's a good chance Laura Durant was behind the camera.

For decades, Laura photographed our productions with care, artistry, and deep love for this art form. So many of the images connected to our history, our artists, and our storytelling exist because Laura was there to capture them. Her work helped document generations of Black theatre in Arizona.

Beyond her lens, Laura built Durant Casting into something the entire Valley arts community leaned on. For years, her platform was where artists found opportunities and where organizations like ours shared casting announcements. She was that kind of resource, steady, generous, and always in service of the work.

We are deeply saddened by her passing and endlessly grateful for everything she gave.

Rest well, Laura. And thank you for all the moments you helped us hold onto. 💜
