Absolutely. In fact, that’s one of our favorite parts of what we do.

The website is a showcase of pieces Scott has already created—not a limit on what 5th Degree Woodworking can make. If you see something you like, we can use it as inspiration for a similar but unique creation. If you have an entirely different idea, bring that too.

You don’t need to know the woodworking terminology. You don’t need a technical drawing. You don’t even need to know exactly how it should be built.

Tell us what you’re imagining, what you want it to do, and what matters to you. Then we can start figuring out the rest.

The biggest difference is intention.

Mass production is designed to make many pieces as consistently and efficiently as possible. Custom craftsmanship gives us room to think about the individual piece—its materials, details, function, and the person who will own it.

Wood also brings something machines can’t standardize completely: natural grain, color, texture, and variation. Those differences are part of the character.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, Scott’s vision is to create something that is not only right for the customer, but uniquely theirs.

There’s something pretty cool about using or displaying a piece and knowing yours isn’t one of 10,000 identical copies.

That’s why we enjoy making pieces like charcuterie boards, cheese boards, sushi plates, trivets, and w**e accessories. They’re functional, but they also bring warmth, texture, and personality to the experience.

When we’re creating a custom piece, we’re thinking about:

1. How the piece will actually be used.
2. How the proportions and shape fit the idea.
3. How the wood grain and natural character contribute to the look.
4. How the details come together cleanly.
5. Whether the finished piece feels personal—not mass-produced.

At 5th Degree Woodworking, we create w**e stoppers in both wood and acrylic styles.

It's a relatively small accessory—but that's exactly what makes pieces like these so much fun.

🥋🪵 Why "5th Degree" Woodworking? There's a story behind the name.

Our craftsman, Scott Anderson, began practicing martial arts at age 15 and ultimately earned the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in the Kensho-Do system of karate.

But the connection between martial arts and woodworking goes deeper than the name.

Focus.

Patience.

Creativity.

Adaptability.

Those are qualities developed through years of martial arts—and they're also incredibly valuable when approaching a woodworking or etching project.

Every new project presents a different challenge. Different materials. Different ideas. Different problems to solve.

And that's part of what makes creating something from scratch so rewarding.

5th Degree Woodworking represents the intersection of two crafts and the discipline that goes into continually learning, adapting, and creating.
