After walking away from this one…and coming back to it…and walking away again…and taking it to a critique group…
I came back to it one last time, did some final tweaking and have officially washed the brushes and scraped the palette clean.😅
This one was kind of a mind bender and really forced me to think outside the box. I had no real plan going into it. Just creating as I went.
Happy to call it finished at last.

Finally! Just wrapped up some finishing touches and calling this one finished. I had a lot of fun playing with skin tones here. Oranges, yellows, purples, blues. It’s so cool how you can create believable imagery with unconventional colors. For many of us, skin color is the bane that keeps us from painting the human form. Peaches, tans, browns. This is what we typically think of when we’re starting out with the concept of painting skin, but I invite you to think outside the box. See what happens when you add a splash of teal or lilac. Does it come alive? Can you warm it up with some reds or cool it down with some blues?

Experiment. Play.

FINALLY!
Ok the last “finished” post of this piece just didn’t sit right with me and I decided to rework the sign and tweak a few areas. Now I think I’m done…maybe? We’ll see. Either way it’s time to step away for a few. Working this small makes my eyes cross. 🤪

Just finished!

“Daisy”
9x12 oil

A little bit different from the usual dog and cat commissions, this little donkey was an absolute joy to paint! Her soft face and gentle eyes melt my heart.❤️

Once she’s cured, this little sweetling will be off to where she will be available for purchase. 100% the proceeds will go toward the loving care of Daisy and her donkey friends.🥰

Oh look! Another cute, little octo!🐙

This little bubble maker made his way out of the Sea of Imagination and onto the canvas yesterday. Another wee one to add to my mini series…of which is yet to be named. This little guy, along with a few others will be making their debut at the upcoming .nursery at the end of July.

Finally finished with this set! Woohoo! 🎉🎉🎉
This last piece, “Lucy” really put me to work. She nearly got scrapped more than once, but I’m glad I pushed thru to the end. I learned a TON painting these and have a whole list of more *similar-ish* topics so stay tuned! 👀👀
For now, I’m happy to finally set the brushes down and step away from the easel.😅

What is your favorite part of your process? I think it varies for me. Changing with each piece.
Today, it’s this. Sipping my coffee on this cold, wintery day. Slowly, methodically mixing colors. This is my meditation.
