When I walked into class this past Tuesday, this amazing display was waiting for me! Last Sunday I celebrated my official directorial screening of PAY ATTENTION. I can’t thank Tasha White owner of MODEx Studio enough for ALL of the love and support she shows us at The Actors District and having this banner made. This jawn stretches across our 60ft screen and looks FANTASTIC!! Shout out to nYne O’nYne | Artist for his genius!! PAY ATTENTION featured 6 of our killas Briona Johnson , Shaun , ActorAnthony Jones , Chelsea McAllister , Penny Stern and the beautiful 🇬🇭🇺🇸MsAdwoa, MPH, CCRP ! And another huge shout out to the writer Janae .

….we don’t make stars, we train threats.

🔥A LOT of tremendous things have been happening at The Actors District these last couple of months! I know we’ve been a bit quiet on the posting because we’re updating our groove but let’s get it cranking! SHOUT OUT to the incomparable Trey Haley , Director and Producer of BET’s Family Business, for coming through and reeeeeally dropping jewels and putting our students through their paces. The time he took and the hands on tutelage he gave was everything. Not just “lecturing” but solid mentorship. Forever grateful and we can’t wait to have you back! Kings to you Trey!

Last night was epic. Thank you for honoring us with the Scholarship Award. It’s an honor to be honored and especially by an institution such as the Ace Awards. This year we have been re-structuring our program and re-tooling quietly. So thank you for honoring us out loud! Our promise is to continue to honor this award by turning out more killas and the illest actors we’ve seen. We don’t make stars, we train THREATS. We’re pushing this thing forward.

💥Miyagi Exercises 💥

The students work hard during these exercises. It takes extreme listening skills, visual skills and emotional skills. They’re not just reciting the phrases over and over. They’re not just improving to improv. They connect through active listening 🙌🏽

You connect with the reader or person in the scene with you, you find their rhythm through their breathing, body language and reactions. You create a visual of who that person is to you in your head and then engage in the dialogue.

Even in the most climaxed and emotional settings the students can still see our coach giving internal instructions using the Miyagi countdown ! Some scenes can be extremely powerful and others can be extremely challenging! These challenges come from our students tapping into different character form.

That’s what they’re working on now, character development and what that looks like.

We hope to see you soon at one of our audits every Tuesday from 7:30pm-10:00pm !
