Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is a nonprofit organization that preserves and interprets the artwork of Isaiah Zagar & furthers the legacy of Isaiah & his wife Julia. Covering half a city block of indoor and outdoor space, Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (PMG) glistens with creativity. Artist Isaiah Zagar began tiling South Street in the 1960s and never stopped, eventually building a mosaic garden out

of ceramic shards, broken mirrors, bicycle spokes, and vivid splashes of dyed cement. The tiled passages of PMG weave over and under ground, and perhaps more than anything through the mind of a dedicated and obsessed artist.

Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. you can hop on a guided talk to celebrate Juneteenth!

Just join us on Alder Street (around the corner from the Magic Gardens Museum) to learn about the rich history of the Seventh Ward. It's free, and no admission to the museum is necessary!

If you're from Brazil you may have heard about Gabriel Joaquim Dos Santos' "Casa Flor" in São Pedro da Aldei. Much like the Magic Gardens Museum, this space was created by using a variety of castoff materials and broken pieces of ceramics.

If you're into that place, you'll love ours! See if you can spot Gabriel's name on our wall when you come visit!

Carmen Mardónez is an artist from the Julia Zagar Residency for Women Artists and our PEW grant recipient, and she creates mind-bending textile pieces! Our Exhibitions and Marketing Managers are currently in Oxford, UK, visiting with Mardónez. They’re spending time in her home and studio, learning all about her process (which includes finding ceramic pieces in the soil near her home!), and getting to watch her work.

Mardónez will have an exhibition at both the Magic Gardens Museum AND Studio starting in May 2027, so stay tuned for more details!
