Our Story
About us:
Penn Create is a student group dedicated to expanding access to art in our communities. We provide a supportive environment for our members, aspiring student artists, to experiment with new materials and ideas. Our club aims to foster collaboration, feedback, and community through weekly meetings. This is how our group began, just a few students looking for a place to be creative and to share. Since our group’s inception, we have expanded our mission to elevate the role of art at Penn in general. With outdoor pop-up galleries, formal mission-based galleries, open access workshops, and our famous art-based fundraisers, we are constantly working to achieve that goal. We are grateful for the opportunities available to us at Penn and work toward offering those opportunities to others in our broader Philadelphia community. We therefore donate 20% of all general fundraisers to Art-reach (https://www.art-reach.org/) and hope to organize community outreach programming in the coming year. We see art as a force to do good. To build community, to share ideas that matter, and most importantly, to create.
Weekly Meetings:
We share a prompt at the beginning of our meeting. Past prompts have ranged from poems (as inspiration) to collaborative still lives to new mediums. We generally work individually, though occasionally we will incorporate collaboration into the project. Toward the end of the meeting we come back together to share what we've created. Meetings are on Mondays, 9pm-10pm.
