This is the hardest post to type, but I've put it off for long enough. As of this this month I have officially retired from my position with MouseHunters Travel. It has been an incredible five years and my family has been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. It is so hard for me, as well as my children, to close the pages on such a magical chapter.

As a homeschool mom to four amazing kids, my first and most important career is that of parent and teacher. As my students have gotten older, their curriculum more demanding, their schedules fuller, and the hands of the clock drawing closer to midnight on the years they'll spend in our home...this Fairy Godmother has been realizing that she needs to retire her magic wand so that she can focus more attention and energy on my truest calling--my children. Rob and I have been talking and praying about this since late 2021, and knew that our most recent Disney trip would probably be the last one I booked for our family as a travel agent. I knew the time was drawing near, and some of the recent actions taken by Disney leadership made it clear to my family that the time had come for me to go ahead and exit stage left.

I have numerous Disney trips booked for families throughout the remainder of 2022 and I am delighted to be able to continue working with them as planned. I simply will no longer be booking any new trips. I do still strongly recommend always using a Disney Planner and I know several amazing ones if you need a recommendation.

I will always love The Magic! I will always believe in Pixie Dust! I will always treasure every memory of every trip I've taken with my babies to the Happiest Place on Earth. The world is a big, big place, though, and I have lots of places I want my kids to see. I look forward to the day when we will hopefully return to Main Street again. I can never say thank you enough to all of you who have supported me and my business during the last five years. It's truly been a Magical Adventure!

Disney 2022 - Post #27
Genie+ and Individual Lightening Lanes

Let me start by saying that this is just my opinion based off of my own family's experience. People seem to be pretty divided on the topic of Disney's new Genie+ and Individual Lightening Lane (ILL for short) options and the expense they add to an already pricey vacation. Let me say up front that I'm not going into too great of detail about what these services include and how they work. There are plenty of places online to find those explanations. I'm trying to keep this post as short as I can and just tell about our experience.

I will tell you that I actually make a higher commission if my Disney family's choose to add Genie+ to their package before they travel. This means that I'm literally cutting my own paycheck to be completely candid with all of you. I hope everyone reading will always remember this detail. I will never try to get you to spend money on a Disney trip paying for something you don't need just to bump my commission.

Before our trip I had read all the things, watched all the videos, and talked to all the people. I was still completely torn about whether to add Genie+ to our trip. The cost is $15 per person per day. For my family of six, that's $90 per day. Times five park days, that's an extra $450 that I wasn't sure would actually be a good investment. If I added Genie+ to our entire trip I would make a commission on that addition. If I waited and just added it day by day in the app as we learned more about whether it was helpful, I would just be letting Disney keep that bonus. In the end we decided to wait, and we're all SO GLAD we did!

Since Hollywood Studios was our first Disney park day, and the one where we anticipated the most long lines, we decided to add Genie+. That meant an additional $90 for my family to be able to skip some lines. Since Genie+ didn't offer Rise of the Resistance or Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway (those are ILL rides that would be an additional expense if we wanted to skip the line) we planned to be at the park for rope drop and head straight to Rise of the Resistance. We figured we'd ride it early without too long of a line, wait for Runaway Railway, and then be able to use Genie+ to skip most of the other lines.

Here's how that went. I got up early and started refreshing the app by 6:50am. At 7am all Lightening Lanes were already gone for the whole day for Slinky Dog Dash. I went ahead and booked a Lightening Lane for Smuggler's Run right after lunch. That was the earliest option. We got to the park and headed straight to Rise of the Resistance. It was closed for repair. So, we walked on over to Smuggler's Run which had a ten minute wait. We decided to hop on that one since we were right there. We thought we could just cancel that Lightening Lane and rebook for something else while we waited. There was really nothing available that we all wanted or felt was a good use of a Lightening Lane, so I went ahead and booked one for Rockin' Roller Coaster for right after lunch, even though only three members of our group wanted to ride it. After Smuggler's Run, we walked over to Toy Story Land. Slinky Dog already had a super long wait, so we headed to Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. We only had to wait about half an hour. After that we were able to walk on Toy Story Mania with virtually no wait.

After lunch, our thrill riders went on over to Rockin Roller Coaster to use that Lightening Lane pass. Then they just got in line for Tower of Terror because they were right there and the only Lightening Lane time available had been late enough in the day that it would interfere with our dinner reservation. I kept checking for a Slinky Dog Lightening Lane to open up (people say that happens) but we never got lucky. After spending way more time than I liked on my phone refreshing the app trying to find a Lightening Lane for something we wanted to do, I finally just got one to ride Toy Story Mania again. We waited in line for Slinky Dog and we waited in line for Rise of the Resistance.

By the end of the day, that $90 we'd spent got my husband, son, and cousin on Rockin' Roller Coaster saving about 20 minutes, and it let us ride Toy Story Midway Mania for a second time, saving us about 20 minutes there. In theory, paying $90 for Genie+ would let us skip MORE lines for MORE rides, but in reality it saved about 40 minutes, and 20 of those 40 were to ride something we'd already ridden earlier in the day. We'd have actually been better off spending that $90 on Individual Lightening Lane for Rise of the Resistance. That's assuming I could have purchased it before it sold out. If we'd done that it would have cost the same, but saved us about an hour and would have potentially let us leave the park a little earlier that night.

In summary, the Fulton family agrees that unless everything works out perfectly and you get lucky snagging what you want in the app before it's gone, Genie+ is really not a great way to spend your Disney dollars. This is especially true if you plan to be at the parks early for rope drop. If you do want to try pay a little bit to skip the lines, I would suggest going ahead and purchasing an Individual Lightening Lane for one of the longer lines. As for us, we didn't even look at that part of the app again. I didn't want to spend that much time in the parks looking at my phone and we knew we would be rope dropping, so we planned our park strategy based off of that. This worked well for us through the remainder of our trip.

A lot of Disney guests feel very differently than we do about Genie+ and Lightening Lane. I'm dying to hear your thoughts on this new system. Please tell me about your experiences in the comments below. In my next post we'll be headed to Epcot! Make sure you check back for all the adventures!

Star Tours & Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Check out the faces of the people in that first picture. Y'all. We were SO TIRED!!! This was by far the LONGEST day of our trip, and that's saying something because we Disney HARD every single day!!! Rise of the Resistance had stayed closed until around lunch time, but once it opened it kept a crazy long line for the rest of the day. We had decided early on that we would eat dinner and then hop in line right before time for the park to close and just wait however long we had to wait to get on board. If we'd left it up to the kids we might have just gone back to the resort, but Rob and I are just stubborn πŸ˜‚ and couldn't make ourselves walk away.

When we left Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, we were right next to the original Star Wars attraction, Star Tours. Since Rob and I are not Star Wars fans, and our kids had only gotten into the movies in the last couple of years, we had always ended up bypassing this one. There wasn't a long wait at all, so we decided to hop on. I know the majority will think I'm nuts, but that was my favorite of all the Star Wars rides in Hollywood Studios. πŸ˜‚ Forget the big new attractions with all their cutting edge technology. Give me the OG Star Tours! My kids and hubby liked it, too, but probably not as much as I did.

Then, it was on to the long wait for Rise of the Resistance. I definitely recommend heading straight to this attraction at rope drop if you can, but if not, this plan of going at the end of the day worked out well for us. Rise of the Resistance was truly amazing. I can see why Star Wars fans have been super obsessed with it. Some of the "magic" was a little lost on me, since I'm not a fan, but even I could appreciate the creativity and engineering that went into its creation. It was definitely worth shutting down the park to get to ride, but this bunch was so happy to hop aboard the Disney Skyliner and head back to "home" to Art of Animation Resort.

Have you ridden any of the Star Wars themed rides at Hollywood Studios? Which one is your favorite? In my next post I'm going to focus on the topic everyone is constantly asking me about...Genie+ and Individual Lightening Lanes. Check back for all the details!

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

The Sci-Fi Dine-In had been on my Disney bucket list for ages! For so many years our meals in the parks were devoted to meeting characters. This was especially true in Hollywood Studios, which is the only park where my littles could meet their favorite pals from the Disney Junior shows. Sci-Fi Dine-In also has pretty limited seating compared to a lot of other Disney restaurants, so I also had a bit of trouble managing to snag a reservation for a party of six! It was definitely worth the wait!

We were truly exhausted after such a long day in the park. This was also one of our warmest days in Orlando, so that made us even more tired. Settling into our "car" in the dim air-conditioned "parking lot" was just what we needed. The menu consists of what you'd expect at a retro drive-in. Burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes. The old black and white sci-fi films on the theater's big screen were more funny than scary. It was a great spot to cool off, rest up, and refuel for the rest of our evening!

Have you ever eaten at Disney's Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater? What did you think about it? Check back for my next post where I'll share about our very first time riding Hollywood Studios OLDEST and NEWEST Star Wars attractions!

Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land is always a favorite. The hubby and I skip Alien Swirling Saucers because neither of us like rides that spin. While I LOVE doing Disney with littles, it's pretty great for my kids to all be big enough to ride stuff without us now.

We got to ride Toy Story Mania twice. (This was one of the only times we used Genie+ all day. More on that in future posts.) After all these trips this one is still one of my kids' absolute favorites.

We rounded out our time in Toy Story Land by hopping in line for Slinky Dog Dash. We waited for around 45 minutes, but the weather was pleasant and we were next to a nice family from Mexico that we enjoyed getting to visit with.

What's your favorite ride in Toy Story Land? Tell me which one you like best! After we were done here we headed over to make our dinner reservation at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. Check back for my next post to read all about it.

Disney Shorts, Thrill Rides, Shopping, Descendants & Cookie Num-Nums

After lunch we hit up the theater just across from 50's Prime Time Cafe to watch the Disney short, "Mickey & Minnie Vacation Fun." My crew loves a good Disney short, and their Mama loves a good photo op. There are several cute spots in the theater lobby. From there we split up.

My girls and I decided to do a little shopping. We also stopped by the Disney Presents theater to take in the "One Man's Dream" exhibit. The big girls and I had checked out this spot on our most recent trip and remembered that the costumes for the cast of the movie Descendants were on display inside. Since our baby sister watches these movies on repeat we knew she couldn't miss seeing these outfits in person!

The thrill seekers, my husband, son, and our cousin, headed to ride Rockin' Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror. My boy did a little shopping of his own while in between rides and grabbed some cool Aerosmith drumsticks for the new drum set he got for Christmas.

After that, we met back up for an afternoon snack break. Cookie Num-Nums all around! They were just the treat we needed to recharge. Are you a fan of the big thrill rides here at Hollywood Studios, or do you sit those out? What about Cookie Num-Nums? Have you ever tried them? What did you think? Check back for my next post where I'll tell you all about our time in Toy Story Land!

50's Prime Time Cafe

My two big girls and I were so excited to take the rest of our crew to the 50's Prime Time Cafe for lunch. The food is really great "home cooking" and the atmosphere is so much fun!

If you've ever wanted to drop right into June Cleaver's kitchen for a meal, this is the spot! The fried chicken and mashed potatoes are my favorite and the milk shakes are perfect, but don't try to order dessert without finishing your veggies! The cast members who serve the food here are a lot of fun, as well, and will make sure you are a member of "The Clean Plate Club" before you can order any sweets! I'm pretty sure this one will be on our Disney schedule every time we visit from now on!

Have you ever eaten at the 50's Prime Time Cafe? What's your favorite item on the menu? Do you have a fun story about the cast members there? Tell me all about it! In my next post I'll tell you about how we started our afternoon with thrill rides, Disney shorts, and a little shopping.

For the First Time in Forever: Frozen Sing-Along

Everyone has a favorite live stage show in Disney World, and this one is mine! Truthfully, I'm a fan of pretty much all of the shows simply because they give us a chance to sit down, rest, and regroup for a moment. Indoor shows are my favorite because--HELLO--climate control! The keep us dry in the rain, cool us off in the heat, and warm us up when it's cold! However, I do have a few specific reasons why I love this particular show so much!

First of all, we are a family of singers. We love to belt out a song at any opportunity that presents itself. Also, the Frozen soundtrack was the background noise in our house FOREVER. We all know every single word to every single song and can harmonize and are each responsible for different characters and their parts. The Fulton family was MADE for a Frozen Sing-Along.

Second, the hosts of the show, the Royal Historians of Arendelle, are hilarious. They are totally there for the parents. While it's true that I do enjoy the music itself, this pair provides much needed humor for all the parents who are exhaustedly wrangling little kids through the parks all day. They're witty and provide constant adult humor (not inappropriate, just more specific to adults) that can sometimes be lacking in the sea of pixie dust and mouse ears we are immersed in when at Disney.

Finally, the show really is magical. In addition to humor and great music, we get to see favorite characters, enjoy a beautiful stage set, and my personal favorite... at the end of the show it SNOWS!!! Well...okay...it's just "snoap" (Disney's soap bubble cluster version of snow) but I don't care. Don't kill the magic for me!

If you've been avoiding this show because you can't stand the thought of another Frozen song and just want to "Let It Go!" you really need to add this one to your Disney bucket list. Even if it's just for the snarky historian hosts. It's worth a visit!

Have you experienced this Hollywood Studios sing-along show? What do you think? Is this one a must-see show for you and your family, or just a waste of time. Tell me what your crew thinks! Next up, I'll be sharing with you about our lunch stop at one of our favorite restaurants in Hollywood Studios!

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway

I know all of you Star Wars fans get way more excited about all of the posts featuring Galaxy's Edge, but I'm a classic Disney girl through and through. Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is may favorite of all the new rides to debut in Hollywood Studios in the last few years.

While I am still a bit melancholy over the loss of The Great Movie Ride, if they had to replace it with something they picked a good one! An exciting trackless dark ride, Runaway Railway is unlike anything Disney has done before. It's colorful, bright, and lively. Six out of six Fultons loved it, and the Barnes cousins were big fans, as well.

Have you ridden Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway? What did you think? Did you love it, or did it leave you wishing for the return of The Great Movie Ride? Tell me what you thought! My next post will be about one of my absolute favorite indoor live shows in the Disney parks--The Frozen Sing-along Celebration!

Rope Drop at Hollywood Studios
and Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run

Our first Disney park day was spent at Hollywood Studios. The official park opening time was 9am. Because we were staying on Disney property, we were allowed early entry beginning at 8:30am. We arrived at the park entrance at 8am and were immediately allowed inside. This sweet surprise influenced our park arrival time for the remainder of our trip. We chose to arrive at least an hour early and were allowed inside immediately almost every day.

Because it always has the longest wait in the park, and was not available with Genie+ Lightening Lane, we went straight to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. We arrived at the entrance to discover it was currently closed (broken down) with no indication as to when (or if) it would reopen that day. Considering what we'd experienced the day before at Universal Studios with the Hogwarts Express, this was not a great beginning to our day. We were determined to make the most of our time, so we hopped on over to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. We only had about a 15 minute wait.

The inside of the Millennium Falcon seats six, so it was perfect for my crew. The two pilots sit in the front row–the left side moves the ship left and right, and the right side moves the ship up and down. The next row holds the gunners who press buttons to shoot down enemies and obstacles in the way. The back row seats the two engineers who work to repair the ship during the flight. I would definitely say the pilots have the best seats. The view up front is spectacular. Once again, I was nervous about motion sickness, but I really didn't have any trouble with it on this ride.

The pictures just don't do it justice, so make sure you watch the POV video in the comments. Have you ridden Smugglers Run? What did you think? Tell me in the comments below. Check back for my next post where I'll be talking about one of my new favorite attractions, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway Adventure!
