The We Matter We Vote Coalition hosted a voter registration event for formerly incarcerated people today at Why Not Prosper. The coalition is a collaboration between Frontline Dads Inc., Unincarcerated Minds, Why Not Prosper, The Philadelphia Branch NAACP, and the Human Rights Coalition with support from The Gray Panthers, The Elevation Project, Dignity and Power Now, and the North Philly League of Voters. Our goal was to educate formerly incarcerated people about their rights to vote and get them registered to vote! It was a great day for us to leverage our collective power. This election is the most critical election in our lifetime and Pennsylvania is a critical state that will help to determine the outcome of the election. So it's time for us to stand together to make a definitive statement about our humanity as we work to create the change we want to see! There are more than 300,000 people in Philadelphia who have had some involvement with the criminal justice system. Philadelphia is a city of 1.5 million people. That means one out of every five people in Philadelphia are impacted by the criminal justice system. With those kind of numbers, we can determine the outcome of any election. And we are organizing in order to do that! So if you are not registered to vote, GET REGISTERED TODAY!

One organization in Philadelphia is making sure formerly incarcerated individuals' voices are heard in November.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I keep hearing the same speeches. Listening to the same debates about violence, poverty, racism, and gentrification. Watching the same results as blood fills the streets. Still losing people to senseless violence left and right. Politicians still playing the same games. Same political maneuvering. Negroes still fighting for crumbs off the table or proximity to power. Still pump faking for titles and perks. Still looking to be validated by social media. The band is still playing while the Titanic is sinking. We still applaud. We still follow the Pied Piper. We still acting like we don't know who "They" are. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. We keep believing the lies our teachers told us. We keep looking at our brothers like he's "Able". We keep feeding the machine. We keep investing in our children's demise. We keep looking for the savior on the white horse. We still waiting for "Superman". We still don't love each other. We still don't love ourselves. We still searching. We still lost. We still don't believe. We still don't know how GREAT we are! Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Wake up tomorrow and start the cycle all over again. Groundhog Day. But it's Winter in America. Spring is a long way away.
