Sara Sherr is a Philadelphia-based music critic who started booking shows in 2001 with Sugar Town, a monthly showcase for lady rockers/DJ's/performers* from Philadelphia and beyond. It began at the Bal
cony Bar, with then-booker Lisa Flynn (formerly Cohen), and DJ's/co-conspirators Maria Sciarrino (a WPRB DJ who would run Plain Parade with me from 2002 to 2006), City Paper contributor M.J. Fine, and The Village Voice's Maura Johnston. Guests of note include The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, late Slits frontwoman Ari Up, Sarah Dougher, Tribe 8, Mirah, The Shondes, Bitch, and Le****ns on Ecstasy.
*The term "lady performer" is open to anyone who was born or identifies as female, so trans artists, drag kings or queens, or anyone who is non-gender conforming are welcome. You just need to rock and be awesome. I ran Plain Parade from 2002-2006 with Maria Sciarrino. It was amazeballs. More on that here:

After PP ended, I booked Tritone from 2007 to January of 2012. After Tritone closed, Sugar Town moved to Kung Fu Necktie from Feb 2012 to Feb 2013. In the summer of 2013, Sugar Town went on hiatus so I could work on Ladyfest Philly and the Phreak N Q***r Arts & Music Festival. Look for future collaborations with Permanent Wave Philly.
