The sign is down, the tables and chairs have gone to Marvin's Home , we've cleaned out and mopped up and now we're onto new adventures. All of my love and thanks to the amazing for gracefully getting me through the last several months.

Transitions cause one to take stock.
As I emptied this beautiful studio that was my 2nd home for 13 years, I thought about so many meaningful moments with customers & staff.
How often does one get to live out a dream? Or get to do widespread good in a community? Or get to connect with thousands of people from all ages, walks of life and reasons for being here? Or get to mentor young people in business and life skills? Or get to have fun & create art everyday in business?
This business was such an amazing experience for me, as I know it was for my customers.
Together with my capable staff, we presented wonderful experiences for young families, date nights, friend groups, team building, fundraising, camps, schools & every possible assemblage of folks. Many of my customers and staff became real friends of mine, extending past the physical walls of my studio.
For this I am so grateful.
This business was also a refuge for me in the darkest times. Literally, through loss and grief, this studio was my safe space—a diversion in the best possible way. It was another way for me to connect with customers who found similar refuge & oasis from personal challenges & a haven from the stresses of the world.
For this I am so grateful.
This studio helped me hone my business skills, but it also helped me find my voice as an artist. My personal art is not ceramics or glass, but I was fulfilled in exploring these media and teaching it to others.
For this I am so grateful.
I fully realize the blessings that were afforded me during my time in this business. I am so proud of what my family, staff and I built and presented in this space. I thank each and every one of my customers who supported us for so many years. And I look forward to new beginnings, new opportunities, and living life fully!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO PICK UP YOUR FINISHED POTTERY! We'll be OPEN next weekend 5/20 from 4-7pm and 5/21 from 1-4. You can also purchase tables and chairs or anything that's left in the studio.

The Life Blood of the studio

Many of you have visited The Expressive Hand repeatedly in the past 12 years of our amazing existence. And so you know the staff and how wonderful they are! My staff is truly my extended family--the face of the business when I’m not there, the folks who keep the studio running smoothly and consistently through all kinds of situations. When I hire new people, I choose very carefully to make sure that each person will fit in with the rest of us, and I take lots of time to train each individual. I continue to work closely with every staff member every week.

This shutdown from the Coronavirus has taken a toll, not only on our business, but on each of us individually. I still keep in touch with each of my staff members to make sure that everyone is holding on and I offer help where I can. Since everyone who works for me is either an artist or student (or both), I have committed to keeping them on payroll throughout this entire shutdown. Since we’re not making any money right now, I will admit that this is a challenge. But, it’s the right thing to do for people whom I rely on, trust with my business, and definitely love as humans. So, I’m applying to grants and opportunities to provide for these special people in my business and my life.

You can make a difference by purchasing gift certificates and pottery-to-go. Spend a little money on our business now and receive the gift of helping not just my business, but each and every person who helps keep this business going. Thanks for your support throughout the years. Now is the time to really ramp it up so we can be there for you in the long run.
