Tomorrow, August 12, look toward the sky before dawn.

Six planets — Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune — will gather across the morning sky in a striking planetary parade. Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn can be seen with the naked eye under good conditions, while Uranus and Neptune require optical aid.

Astronomically, the planets are not truly lined up beside one another in space. From Earth, they simply appear along the same broad path across our sky. Yet for centuries, unusual celestial gatherings have inspired stories of omens, transformation, and hidden forces moving above us.
