This is 1 panel from a black and white triptych of collage I created over 3 years as an homage to Louise Nevelson. When assembled, the entire piece of 49 collages is 9 feet wide and 5 feet high. I hope to get it into a show so I can actually see it together. It’s my most aspirational piece.

OK, so not a successful end product, but I enjoyed experimenting in sculpting the nose out of magazine paper. Not sure how this is going to apply to future work but I’m trying to take time outside of normal processing to do adventures in bad work too.

I build collages in different ways. One way is to just build it one piece after another, layered and sliced in. And then I cut the whole thing down to a manageable size and mat it. The images here are the back and the front of a matted collage.

“We talk” (paper collage. “20” x “20”): 2 separate people (each in b&w) while the space between is a dynamic & emotional exchange. I sketched this out a week before starting. Each placement was deliberation. (sketches and detail included) It could be an album cover. Beck’s “Morning Phase” kept me company while I made this one.

22” x 30” paper collage on Bristol board. This is one of my largest individual collages. The other being a mandala. The Bristol cheaper than using mat board and is relatively sturdy, so I recommend if you use white space in your collage.
