PACA: Philadelphia Area Conservation Association PACA is a regional group of conservation and preservation professionals in the greater Philadelphia area.

It aims to offer innovative programming (not the same old stuff) that enhances the daily work of preservation professionals and conservators, to support a collegial atmosphere, and to work with allied colleagues and the community at large to encourage productive communication.

We're excited to offer a behind the scenes tour of the Mercer Museum next month! Located in Doylestown, the museum's core collection includes over 50,000 pre-Industrial tools. The guided tour will only include behind the scenes spaces, but attendees are welcome to stay afterwards and tour the rest of the museum independently.

Due to the small collections spaces that we will be visiting on the tour, attendance will be limited to 10 people. Registration will be limited to PACA members to start, but with the option for everyone including non-members to join a waitlist if we have more availability. If you register but are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to another person. This is a free event and you can register at the link in our bio.

The drive to the Mercer from Philadelphia is about an hour. Once we have an attendance list we will do our best to facilitate carpooling if needed. At least one board member will driving from Philadelphia. You can indicate if you are in need of a ride or would like to offer one when you register!

Hi all, this year, we’ve decided to try something new, and we need your help!

PACA is planning a Fall General Meeting, to be held in-person on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at The Rosenbach Museum and Library. Presentations will be from 2pm to 5pm, with a gallery tour and outdoor reception to follow.

PACA welcomes proposals on any conservation-related topic. Do you have a project in progress that you are excited to share? If so, we are excited to hear from you! Did you give a presentation at a different conference that you would like to share again? If so, recycling is encouraged! Possible topics could include but are not limited to conservation treatment, technical analysis, preventive care, and project management. We welcome topics from all conservation disciplines, from allied professionals, and from all career levels on any aspect of your work.

Talks may be a maximum of 15 minutes. Talks of 5 minutes or less are also encouraged, if you would like to present a short tip. Please submit an abstract to [email protected] by Friday, June 16, 2023. Please indicate if you would like to give a long talk or a short tip.

Thanks to everyone who came to our first lunchtime talk! We're excited to invite you to another one this month:
Sarah Reidell, Head of Conservation at Penn Libraries, will present on how the Steven Miller Conservation Laboratory uses the dual spreadsheet-database capabilities of Airtable, a low-code app with different subscription models, for collaborative project tracking, surveys, and more. She will share how they've recently adopted some advanced features like automations to ingest data from Aeon, the library's automated request and workflow management software specifically designed for special collections libraries and archives. This overview will share what Conservation has been doing with Airtable and what features they are excited to try out in the near future.

Join PACA for a meetup at the Rodin Museum's beautiful garden bar! Enjoy a refreshing beverage, some small plates, or just the company of some PACA people. There will be a free, first-come first-serve tour of the Rodin's Hands exhibit starting at 6:00pm, for any interested attendees.
