If you’re able, stop by located inside the Bok building to see my show, Temporal Distortions. This body of work was produced during the pandemic and can be summed up as follows:

Time is in everything we do. It exists even when we do nothing. Time causes our skin to form new lines and cracks but it also allows our scars to heal. Time re-echoes and is hard to explain, it alters everything it touches.

It’s a metronome to existence, the heartbeat of living. Time never stops even when it seems to. Perception affects time, time affects perception. Everyone’s perception of time and details are warped, contorted to always feel just out of reach.

Twists and turns abound as memories flash through our minds like a picture book. Unfathomable but familiar. Animated but still. Insatiable.

Temporal Distortions is a representation of the movement of time and the confusion that can result because of it. Memories become dream-like and thoughts repeat like the patterns made when a pebble is tossed in a puddle. Ripples, waves, distortion, time.

I saw in Philly this past Wednesday and I’m in awe. I had no idea this would mark a watershed moment for me. I’ve always loved them, first hearing them at 10 years old. Such clanky, rhythmic sounds that felt like home.

Around this time in my life I begged my dad for a synthesizer and I’m so glad he took me seriously. I explained that I didn’t just want an electric piano, I needed something with effects. I remember playing around with the decay and warping notes until they were unrecognizable. I have Depeche Mode to thank for making these types of sounds accessible and starting me off on the right trajectory.

As for this past Wednesday evening, experiencing the balance of Martin Gore’s vulnerable, somber yet hopeful lyrics offset by Dave Gahan’s confident stage presence and deep baritone voice pouring out like molten lava was a sight to behold apart from the glorious noise permeating the room. Their varied strengths are the perfect marriage of what artistic collaboration is all about; enhancing each other’s natural talent and beauty. Their bond was palpable, hugging each other after singing Waiting for the Night. So grateful to see these artists, these people, still doing what they love and with as much enthusiasm and power as ever. 🖤❤️‍🔥
