Well, we are officially halfway through the 2026 season. Tournament #12 was a fun one for sure. Two tables of really good players showed up. Several played earlier in the day in our inaugural Heads Up Tag Team tournament. Most not named Ken Purpura found their way to the final table!
Early on at Table 2, Christos Vasilarakis was the overwhelming chip leader, then Dave White had his seat assignment switched to Christos' table and immediately doubled up through the Big Chobani. Those two brought big stacks to a loaded final table.
It should be noted that John Fiduccia's speech play cost him something around 10K in the pot, plus $40K in bonus winnings (premium hand and high hand), when he looked down at pocket rockets, mouthed off, and chased away everyone from the pot. It really wasn't that dramatic, but he wouldn't stop talking about it so it seemed worthy of making this post:)
Ok, back to the final table...Peg and Ray lasted slightly longer than Steve and Jess did during the Tag Team event against Christos and Kim:) Bogdan played solid poker, made good reads and bets and still came up short in 7th. If his schedule opens up a bit more and he keeps showing up, I think we'll hear more from the youngster in the future. Ritesh and John, also know as the two nits, went out next in 6th and 5th, respectively. Neither did anything remotely interesting at the final table and basically wasted those two seats. That leaves us with the big dogs - it seemed that lady luck and the good Christos never made it over from Table 2 to the final table, as he hung around just long enough to dump chips to everyone else. Good run to finish 4th after having 70% of the chips in play coming out of the break. We won't mention the King on the river that did him dirty. Dave White went out in 3rd. I think he slept through at least one level at the final table, then literally woke up to Aces, got his money in good preflop against Matt Mulray's Jack-crap hand, which found glory with a runner-runner heart board to complete his crap flush. Dave sat silently for several minutes, and the dealer was unsure if he was contemplating murder, or if he had fallen back asleep. He collected his 3rd place money and did not commit homicide before leaving. That left Matt Mulray with the big stack and Kim Godfrey, who patiently put herself in a good position to cash after pilfering chips from most of the players throughout the final table. Kim was not able to overcome Matt's stack, and settled for 2nd place. Congrats to Matt who won his second trophy since April and has himself firmly in the running to win the 2026 POY title - good thing that grad party didn't keep you from showing up! It was a really good final table to deal.
POY Leaderboard was posted earlier today. Plenty of players in the mix to make noise - you gotta keep showing up, and show out!
