Community Education and Public Programming In The News// Before it opens its new building, Philadelphia Ballet stages joint summer program with Opera Philadelphia

WHYY’s Peter Crimmins visited our new Center for Dance, where we are hosting our first-ever collaborative summer camp with Opera Philadelphia.
Designed for middle and high school students, the program offers two training tracks—singing and dancing. While students choose a primary focus, all participants receive instruction in both disciplines, along with hands-on experience in technical theater, including sound and lighting design.
At the conclusion of the program, all 120 students will come together for a final performance in the Philadelphia Ballet Dance Innovation Lab theater.
We are grateful to welcome these young artists into our new space, witness their growth as performers, and partner with Opera Philadelphia on this inspiring collaboration.

Philadelphia Ballet is pleased to welcome back Peter Weil as a Demi Soloist for our 2026/27 Season.

Peter Weil began his training at the Metropolitan Ballet Academy. He continued his training at Boston Ballet, spent summers on full scholarship training at the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, Orlando Ballet, and Boston Ballet.

Peter joined Philadelphia Ballet as a member of Philadelphia Ballet II in 2015 and was promoted to Apprentice that fall. His promotions continued to the Corps de Ballet for the 2016/2017 Season and then to Soloist for our 2019/2020 Season. Peter joined Ballet X for their 2023/24 season and now returns to Philadelphia Ballet as Demi Soloist for our 2026/27 Season.

We look forward to his return to the stage as he continues his !

2026/27 Season Promotion: Congratulations to Isaac Hollis on his promotion to First Soloist!

Isaac Hollis received his dance training from the Fort Wayne Ballet. He began his professional career with the Sarasota Ballet, where he spent two seasons performing ballets such as Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody and George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations. Isaac joined Philadelphia Ballet in 2020 as an Apprentice, was promoted to Corps de Ballet and then to Demi Soloist in 2022, promoted to Soloist in 2024, and now as First Soloist for the 2026/27 Season.

Congratulations to this wonderful artist, we look forward to his continued success on his !

Philadelphia Ballet is pleased to announce our Student Matinee performances for the 2026/27 Season!

These performances offer a meaningful opportunity to introduce young audiences to the arts and the excitement of live performance.

Each school group may reserve up to 150 student tickets, with registration available on a first come, first served basis.

Please note: for the 2026/27 Season, Philadelphia Title I Schools are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee.

From Spain to Verona, and everywhere in between, what a season it has been!

This season brought two world premieres by Resident Choreographer Juliano Nunes, two brand-new wardrobe and set builds, the Philadelphia premieres of ‘Fall River Legend’ and ‘The Merry Widow,’ and the exciting move into our new home, Philadelphia Ballet’s Center for Dance.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to the Academy of Music for our 2026/27 Season, and to celebrate the Grand Opening of our Center for Dance, September 16-18.

Last month, we celebrated a joyful culmination of Dance Chance. Students proudly performed the dances they created for their classmates, teachers, and families. As we celebrate the close of another year of Dance Chance, we are also thrilled to announce that the program has been renewed for an additional three years through the generous support of the William Penn Foundation.

Established in 2012, Dance Chance provides high-quality dance instruction to nearly 500 second and third-grade students each year. The program’s mission is to empower children in majority low-income communities through dance education that fosters physical, emotional, and artistic growth.

Throughout the school year, students receive weekly dance instruction and have the opportunity to experience a professional performance by Philadelphia Ballet at the Academy of Music. These experiences inspire creativity, confidence, and self-expression.

We are deeply grateful to the William Penn Foundation for its continued investment in Dance Chance.

Thank you to our teaching artists, school partners, families, and students for making this year such a success. We look forward to another exciting chapter!
