“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bo***ge to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bo***ge.”

Baxter Black passed away yesterday, June 10 at 4 am. Born in New Mexico, Baxter became a large animal veterinarian, obtaining his doctorate at Colorado State University. “I wanted to go to vet school so I could be in the cow business, and I wound up becoming a poet, which is ok too.”
And entertaining he was – creating videos and columns to last for years. His subject was often himself, recalling stories of events that country folk could relate to and laugh about. He never had a shortage of them to share as he traveled across the country speaking at FFA conventions and groups from all walks of life. He produced a weekly column as well as a radio program and show on RFDTV. More recently, Baxter was working on producing audio books from the several that he had written. They provided hours of entertainment for me as I crisscrossed the nation covering rodeos.
I had the privilege of featuring Baxter in the Fence Post, tagging along while he filmed “Rocky Mountain Oysters” near Hudson, Colorado. He used friends and acquaintances as the actors and producers, and after a day of filming, treated the cast and crew to a steak dinner at his home. That was the beginning of a 40-year relationship with a man that was as genuine and real as they come.
Baxter made his mark in the world with his humor, humility, and honest assessment of life – may his legacy last a long time.

Praying for you friend!

Dusty Tuckness had his leg stepped on by a bull in Round 9 of the NFR tonight while putting himself between a rider and bull. He suffered an open fracture of both bones in his left leg and, according to Dr. Tandy Freeman, he'll have surgery tonight where they'll insert a metal rod. Recovery is expected to take 6 months, and so you may want to consider giving to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund who, because cowboys don't get paid if they don't work, will hopefully be able to aide Dusty financially because he certainly deserves it. Thoughts and prayers for Dusty, a 10 time Bullfighter of the Year and a man of faith. JUSTIN COWBOY CRISIS FUND: https://www.justincowboycrisisfund.org/
