Mary turned out surprisingly well. She had sooo much damage that repairs took days. I had to make all the folds of her gown on the bottom, her face and veil were a hot mess, and I had to replace some of the fold on the bottom of her robe. She has a beautiful design on her robe that I had to "fudge" when I got to the parts I replaced. What can I say about her base...so much better than brown!

This Mary really challenged me. Her eyes point in slightly different directions. Her left eye points downward more than her right eye. I was worried she would have bug eyes. With all the Marys I have restored, I have never seen this base either. Just when you thought you seen it all....

We are switching to our Summer hours starting next week. We will be closed on Saturdays starting June 27th. Kids classes will be on Wednesday, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm starting July 15th.

This Mary was a tough one for me to finish. My friend Carol was going to fix and repaint her for a family member. I am extremely sad to say she passed away before she started. We had already added wire to her hands to help the repair material adhere to the plastic so we couldn't just give her back to the family. I don't know what Carol had in mind for repainting her. I just hope I did hee justice.

Infant Jesus of Prague came to me with some repairs started. I finished the repairs and matched the paint where needed instead of repainting him. I find him interesting because I am Czech and Hungarian. In researching him I found that the original was believed to have been crafted in Spain in the 16th century. He was made out of wood and painted with colored wax. He was donated to the Church of Our Lady of Victoria in Prague, Czech Republic in 1628 by Princess Polyxena of Lobkowicz. The Miraculous Survival legend contends that the statue was destroyed during a war with his hands broken. He was found by Father Cyril in 1635 who claimed he heard the statue say "Have mercy on me and I will have mercy on you...The more you honor me, the more I will bless you." I have found a very similar version of what the statue said to Father Cyril on another site. He is believed to have miraculous powers of healing and protection. He is also usually dressed very ornately.
