Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Great Lakes, Great Music The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra began as a vision of a handful of professional musicians who performed several concerts in 2000.

The orchestra filled a need for classical orchestral music in the northern Michigan area, and soon the GLCO was performing classical concerts, “pop” series concerts and smaller neighborhood recital concerts, as well as developing educational programs that inspire and transform students both in the community and in local schools. As Northern Michigan’s champions of classical chamber music, it is ou

r mission to entertain, to inspire and to educate. With a vast variety of concert themes, we highlight the most classic of traditional composers to the most innovative of today’s contemporaries—we truly have something for everyone!

🎉 IT’S A WRAP! What a summer. What a season. What a way to celebrate and CLOSE 25 years of GLCO! 🎉

From Carnegie Hall to a sold-out red-carpet finale, JUNE and JULY brought historic milestones, unforgettable music, incredible generosity, new friends—even a marriage proposal! ❤️ Thank you, northern Michigan!

🎶 JUNE 8 | CARNEGIE HALL DEBUT
GLCO proudly carried northern Michigan to Carnegie Hall in NYC, featuring Dylana Jenson, David Lockington, and Libor Ondras, performing to a FULL HOUSE and standing ovations AND becoming 1 of only 3 professional orchestras in Michigan history to perform a formal concert on this legendary stage. The evening even included a PREMIERE of our friend Anthony Patterson's composition "The Match", AND even a surprise MARRIAGE PROPOSAL that GLCO was honored to help make happen—Congratulations to Gigi (From Petoskey) and Paul who now live in New York! 💍

🏡 JUNE 12 | CARNEGIE HOMECOMING
We brought the celebration home, sharing this historic milestone with the community that made it possible.

🎻 JUNE 23 | CRESCENDO
Our annual FUNDRAISER gathered friends, music lovers, and generous supporters around one goal: building a strong future for GLCO and orchestral music in northern Michigan.

✨ JULY 16 | SOLD-OUT SEASON FINALE
Lights. Camera. Music! rolled out the RED CARPET to a packed house of FAMILIES, first-time concertgoers, local young talents Blaise and Lena Sytsma-Reed, and GENERATIONS connecting through music! 💃🎬🎶 Featuring stunning performances by Kelley Kessell and Matheus Sardinha Garcia Souza, legendary film scores, and community guest presenters, the evening was pure celebration. Generously underwritten by Wally Cherniack Klein.

AND THEN came an extraordinary show of generosity: a $25,000 matching challenge from our friends (Carla and Mike Miller and Maggie Stewart), inspired an incredible response, helping raise more than $100,000 in one night to finish our 25th Anniversary Season strong and set the stage for what comes next. ❤️

💐 A beautiful post-concert reception, generously sponsored by Monarch Garden & Floral and Wineguys Restaurant Group, gave us one more chance to celebrate together.

🙏 To our musicians, artists, donors, sponsors, partners, board, staff, volunteers, audiences, and generous community—THANK YOU! You made this summer historic.

🎻 25 years brought us here. Now we start writing the next chapter.

This week's speaker was Dr. Libor Ondras, the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra's music director. He says the GLCO is a team of around 70 musicians, 10 staff, dozens of volunteers, and hundreds of supporters. They produce concerts throughout the year. Their full orchestra main stage concerts are usually held in John Hall Auditorium in Bay View or at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. They do smaller chamber ensembles at a variety of smaller venues around the area. See their upcoming schedule here: https://glcorchestra.org/
