What Holds Beginning Artists Back
Being concerned with trying to get drawings/paintings perfect. Trying to control every mark/stroke.
We get afraid of letting go of control, of embracing the unpredictability of art materials.
Little secret: art thrives on mistakes.
Especially watercolor, such an unpredictable medium. The way it moves, blends, and reacts to water is part of the magic. The sooner we let go of the need for control, the better your art will become.
I see it all the time with my students. They’re afraid to “mess up.” They shy away from experimenting or taking risks with their colors and compositions.
But when they finally embrace the flow & let themselves make mistakes, they grow!
It’s not about getting everything perfect. It’s about learning to work with the medium, letting it guide you. Don't waste years trying to master the “rules”. Embrace the PROCESS.
The journey is so much more fun than the destination.
Welcome the unpredictability, and your art will feel alive!
If you’re stuck in the perfection trap.....let it go and you’ll find your true artistic voice.
