This handsome fella is getting ready to travel home. I opted for my Faber-Castell Polychromos and CaranD’Ache Pablo colour pencils for the handsome gelding and completed the soft blue background using acrylic paint. All on Clairefontaine Pastelmat. The pastelmat is so conducive to layers of pencil adding to the depth and hues.
I love how the soft blue ties into the highlights on his coat and those blue eyes!

The handsome Brett is finished! I’ve loved working on this beautiful portrait! This is a 24”x36” pastel on Pastelmat board. I tried something a little different and painted the background using acrylic. I love the way it makes him pop off the page!

Hello Friends!
I’ve been MIA for a while so I thought it might be a good time to reintroduce myself.
I’m Emily Russell, wife, mom, artist, equestrian, blessed child of God.
I work a “regular” job that I love in Ag lending!
I have two sweet babies who keep us busy.
My husband and I raise quarter horses. We train our own and show in ranch horse events. Born and raised Arkansan and proud of my Natural State. Married to my Texas Cowboy.
I grew up on a farm showing angus cattle, quarter horses, chickens pigs etc.
I have a degree in Ag Business a minor in Art and a Masters in Business Administration.
I have loved to draw and paint since I was little. Art has been my passion and my therapy over the last 3+ decades.
Right now I’m in the busy sports mom phase spending most evenings at a ballpark. Hence the reason I’ve been MIA…But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love my art but I’m most proud of my beautiful children! I love watching them grow and learn.
I love God and love his artwork! He has blessed me more than I ever dreamed and I owe it all to him.

I am currently working on two awesome portraits. Loving every second I get. I can’t share them yet. But stay tuned. 😉
