Now that this commission has made it home, I get to share it with you all!! I’m partial to a pretty roan, especially one that can work a cow. I completed this commission using pastels on grey Pastelmat. 16x20”

Hello Friends!
I’ve been MIA for a while so I thought it might be a good time to reintroduce myself.
I’m Emily Russell, wife, mom, artist, equestrian, blessed child of God.
I work a “regular” job that I love in Ag lending!
I have two sweet babies who keep us busy.
My husband and I raise quarter horses. We train our own and show in ranch horse events. Born and raised Arkansan and proud of my Natural State. Married to my Texas Cowboy.
I grew up on a farm showing angus cattle, quarter horses, chickens pigs etc.
I have a degree in Ag Business a minor in Art and a Masters in Business Administration.
I have loved to draw and paint since I was little. Art has been my passion and my therapy over the last 3+ decades.
Right now I’m in the busy sports mom phase spending most evenings at a ballpark. Hence the reason I’ve been MIA…But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love my art but I’m most proud of my beautiful children! I love watching them grow and learn.
I love God and love his artwork! He has blessed me more than I ever dreamed and I owe it all to him.

I am currently working on two awesome portraits. Loving every second I get. I can’t share them yet. But stay tuned. 😉

I am finally able to share this portrait without spoiling the surprise! This was such a sweet and thoughtful wedding gift. The young man was a dear friend, gone too soon, and the baby is the lovely couples sweet baby!
Jumping from horses and pups to people was a challenge for me. But I enjoyed the process of blending skin tones.

Snow days make for great days to stay in my warm and cozy studio working on some commissions. Unfortunately I can’t share those yet… So here is a photo of two of my favorite mares at chore time yesterday. 😍

I’ve been quietly recouping from the Holiday rush! 2026 is off to a wonderful start, except for the frigid temps ahead in Arkansas. 🥶
Hopefully that means more time bundled up in my warm Art studio.
I completed this memorial registration portrait for a friend, using watercolor and color pencil on the original reg papers.
This is Bud. He was shown and loved by a sweet young lady who tragically lost him last year. I hope she loves this portrait for years to come. 💙

I believe it’s talent given from God. That is developed and pursued over time and practice!

I think she’s finished! If I stare at it long enough, I’m sure I could find things to edit and tweak. I love her sweet eyes and that bandana! 🎨
