BUCKS COUNTY FOLK SONG SOCIETY Members Showcase Concert at Perkasie Patchwork this Saturday, May 9!!!

Saturday, May 9, 2026 - BUCKS COUNTY FOLK SONG SOCIETY
Perkasie Patchwork Coffeehouse and the Bucks County Folk Song Society will collaborate for the BCFSS Annual Members Showcase Concert on Saturday, May 9, 2026, 7:30 pm at Perkasie Mennonite Church, 320 W Chestnut St., Perkasie, Pa. Tonight’s theme: Celebrating Family.

Admission: Free Will Donation. Doors open at 7:00 with performances at 7:30 pm.

This is the Bucks County Folk Song Society’s longest standing regular event and is unique among their many activities. It offers any member in good standing a chance at his or her 8-15 minutes of fame, and will include eight individuals and groups contributing their talents to a very entertaining evening.

In an effort to take best advantage of scarce stage time, many members have banded together into performing groups. Some of these excellent collaborations can not be heard or seen anywhere else, while others have resulted in lasting relationships and appear regularly around the area.

Perkasie Patchwork Coffeehouse is thrilled welcome Carol Walker and Hogfiddle Consort to the April coffeehouse on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Address: 320 W Chestnut St., Perkasie, Pa.

What the heck is a Hogfiddle??? Hogfiddle: an old-time nickname of the Appalachian mountain dulcimer. Consort: name in common usage in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries for a small group of musicians performing on similar instruments.

The Hogfiddle Consort is a select ensemble made up of six mountain dulcimer players, culled from the 20-member New York Dulcimer Orchestra, based in New Paltz, NY, and directed by Carol Walker.

Their repertoire is varied, and includes music from many genres, including classical favorites, hymns and spirituals, Celtic and American traditional tunes, timeless holiday songs, and selections from the American Songbook. The “Many Hands, Many Dulcimers” concerts are family-friendly events that share the joy of music with the community. Concerts are also educational and inspiring for all — audience members are sometimes invited to “sit in” with the orchestra, and there is always a surprise or two at a Carol Walker dulcimer event!

Opening the evening will be Carol Walker. As a professional piano accompanist, she continues her association with various schools, churches, theater groups, and community choruses around the tri-state area, including the Choral Art Society in Westfield, NJ, and the prestigious Masterwork Chorus of Morristown, NJ, where she is also the Assistant Director and leader of the Masterwork Women’s Chamber Ensemble. She recently made her Carnegie Hall debut on harpsichord when she performed with the Masterwork Orchestra and Chorus for their annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah. Carol branched out from her formal classical training when she bought her first mountain dulcimer in 1999. This newly found avenue of folk music led her to connect with many other folk musicians, along with an invitation to join Wayfarers & Company, an eclectic old-time folk group based in Stroudsburg, Pa. Carol was active with this group for over 15 years, adding vocal harmonies, and playing dulcimer, upright bass, piano, melodica, and harp.
