Ten years of DIYvinci started with a lot of “I wonder what would happen if…”

Some of those ideas became favorites. Others took unexpected turns. Even after the products were retired, I didn’t want all those creative starting points to disappear.

So I gathered 25 retired downloads and 135 creative assets into the DIYvinci 10th Anniversary Vault. You can come in with a project in mind, or simply browse until one odd little thing catches your eye.

When I used to work in an office, I built a tiny haunted room above my computer for Halloween.

It had patterned walls, miniature lights, framed portraits, and a little pink sofa. There was even a graveyard scene along the cubicle wall. I loved making it, and I loved looking up at it during the workday.

Decorating my desk became one of my favorite things about having an office job. I did something for Christmas, too, and kept pieces that felt like me around the rest of the year.

Those things brought me joy. They made the desk feel more like home, surrounded by reminders of what I liked and what I could dream up and make. Even while I was busy with other work, I got to look up and see that part of myself.

Creativity doesn’t always have to wait for a separate time and place. Sometimes it can live right beside the rest of your day.

I didn’t just miss creating. I missed how it felt to be me when I did.

Getting an idea and wanting to try it right away. Losing track of time inside a story. Making something without needing to know what it would become.

For a while, those feelings were hard to reach. I remembered them, which somehow made missing them harder.

That experience is part of why I created the Archive of Lost Ideas.

It’s an ongoing story about a place where unfinished ideas still exist, and a Keeper named Mina who begins finding more than she expected there.

As you follow her story, you can bring pieces of the Archive into your own life through printable artifacts, music, and small creative quests.

Read a scene. Listen to a song while you draw. Make something inspired by an object Mina finds.

I wanted a way in for the days when even choosing what to make feels like too much. A story to get curious about. Something to respond to without having to come up with everything yourself.

You can be good at something and still want to make something else.

People see something you made and say, “You should sell those!” Or they keep asking for more of the thing you’ve gotten good at.

It feels good to have your work appreciated. But it can also make trying something else feel strangely hard to justify.

Why start over with clay when you already know how to paint? Why make a messy little collage when you could make something people would actually buy?

I’ve followed enough creative side quests to know that being good at one thing doesn’t stop me from being curious about another. Still, I can get caught up in whether the new thing makes sense for my business before I’ve even had a chance to enjoy it.

Sometimes I want to try something without immediately figuring out what it could become.

That’s part of finding alignment for me: letting what I want to make have a say, alongside what I know how to make.

You don’t lose your skills by trying something else. And you don’t have to become equally good at the new thing to have a reason to enjoy it.

“I want to see what happens” is a reason to pick up the supplies, too.

When I sat down to write ten lessons from ten years of DIYvinci, I expected the finished things to do most of the talking.

They didn’t.

The unfinished projects kept showing up. The experiments that went nowhere. The ideas I was excited about for three weeks and then quietly stopped wanting.

My first instinct was to sort them into the embarrassing pile. Evidence that I should have been more focused, more consistent, better at following through.

But some of those unfinished things changed what I made next.

They taught me which parts I loved, which parts I was only doing because I thought I should, and which problems I cared enough to keep solving in a different form.

That doesn’t mean I have to pretend I feel great about every abandoned project. I don’t.

It does mean “unfinished” isn’t enough information to decide what it was worth.

If you’re looking at something you didn’t finish, try asking one question before you call it a failure:

I’ve been planning a new home for the Archive of Lost Ideas.

And one decision keeps steering the whole thing:

I don’t want it to feel like a folder full of content.

The Archive is a story world. There are entries to uncover, artifacts to keep, Field Notes to leave, a Keeper Profile, and a monthly Quest. If the experience asks you to remember where five separate pieces live, the magic turns into admin.

So I’m thinking about the unglamorous things that protect the imaginative ones.

Where does a Keeper return? What should be waiting there? What can the world remember for them? How can it feel alive without becoming demanding?

That is the reason behind the Archive app I’m designing. Not more features for the sake of features. A clearer doorway into the world, with fewer reasons to fall out of it once you’re there.

It is still being built. I’m sharing this part because creative work isn’t only the visible artifact.

Sometimes it is designing the conditions that let someone stay curious.
