⭐Meet another amazing new PSO musician, Victoria Ella Askren!⭐

Violinist Ella Askren, originally from Los Angeles, is a recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she earned both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees studying with Simon James, Cordula Merks, and Nancy Zhou. An active orchestral musician, Ella is a two-time fellow of the National Repertory Orchestra for its 2025 & 2026 seasons, and has served as concertmaster for the 2020 Grammy Awards Show finale alongside Lang Lang and Joshua Bell. She has performed regularly with the Monterey, Modesto, Stockton, and Oakland Symphonies, as well as side-by-sides with the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.

Ella has played in masterclasses for artists such as Ray Chen and Stella Chen, and is a multi-year alumna of the Meadowmount School of Music. In addition to her career in classical music, Ella has played with the SF Contemporary Music Players Ensemble, serves as concertmaster for the Renegade Rock Orchestra, and has performed with the Billboard Top 100 DJ artist KYGO at the San Francisco Chase Center as part of his 2024 world tour.

Meet another new PSO Musician for 2026-27, Alex Moore!

Alex Moore is a cellist and educator originally from northern Kentucky. During their time in Kentucky, they studied with renowned cellist and pedagogue Paul York at the University of Louisville. Alex pursued their Master’s degree at DePaul University, studying under former Chicago Symphony Orchestra Assistant Principal Cellist Stephen Balderston, as well as widely acclaimed pedagogue Dr. Melissa Kraut. Alex was a winner of the DePaul Chamber Music Competition in 2025. They are an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and have worked as a substitute cellist with ensembles such as the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Northbrook Symphony, and Opera Festival of Chicago. Alex also teaches group music classes at various programs within Chicago Public Schools. In their free time, Alex enjoys running, golfing, pickleball, and relaxing with their two cats.

Meet one of our new musicians for 2026-27, Oskar Kaut!

Oskar Kaut is a cellist based in Urbana, IL. Oskar is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Cello Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is studying with Prof. Daniel McDonough of the Jupiter Quartet.

Prior to arriving at UIUC, Oskar received a Master’s in Cello Performance from Northern Illinois University, where he studied with Dr. Cheng-Hou Lee and served as principal cellist of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Political Science, and Ethics & Public Policy at the University of Iowa, where he performed with the University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra and participated in the Chamber Music Residency Program, receiving coachings and masterclasses from esteemed artists such as the Cavani, JACK, Jupiter, Harlem, and Miró Quartets.
