BU Skeptics

BU Skeptics What is BU Skeptics? Despite the club having been disbanded and dormant since 2013, the BU Skeptics page continues to get occasional views.

This prompts me to write a "last call" message for anyone interested in taking up the reins of this great organization. From 2010 to 2013, BU Skeptics was well attended on a weekly basic, its core group consisting of five to ten like-minded individuals who went on to forge lasting friendships. Meetings generally consisted of topical discussions, sometimes going late into the night, on all sorts of

social, political, and philosophical subjects. Occasionally the group brought in a guest speaker to spur discussion. BU Skeptics served as not only a forum for exploring ideas but also as a sort of refuge for those who enjoy stimulating intellectual discussion, even on taboo subjects like religion and politics, but cannot readily find an outlet for such talks in their daily social lives. It was unique not only on Bradley's campus, but in the whole of society. Sadly, as its core group graduated and became busied with their adult lives, the club faded away without someone to carry on its legacy. All of the infrastructure remains in place to continue this great club - page, e-mail address, e-mail list, a willing faculty adviser, and all of the skill and know-how to get things started - if only someone would take up the charge. If you think you might be the one ready to resurrect BU Skeptics, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out via Facebook message or a post on this thread. Skeptics is an organization devoted to approaching life's questions from a rational point of view. Skeptics is open to anyone who values intellectual discussion and debate grounded in logic and experience, but also to those wishing to challenge these views. Much like religious organizations on campus, the topics of our discussion are not all centered on religion or the essence of skepticism, but rather on current events, cultural trends, and life in general. Topics from the 2010-2011 academic year included:
Gun Control
Evolution
Global Climate Change
Drug Control
Morality
Nationalism
War
The Middle East
Watson
Plagiarism
Apocalypse
Evolutionary Psychology
Conspiracy Theories
Internet and Society
Religion

Oftentimes, guest speakers and other student groups are invited to join in on the discussion, making for memorable and eye-opening discussions. If you or someone you know would enjoy attending this kind of student organization, please email [email protected] to be added to the mailing list and receive info on meeting times and locations.
