Les Misérables is the world’s longest-running musical – a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time. In nineteenth-century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways. Our newest Entertainment Report features the Summer Youth Theatre performances of The Addams Family Musical at Peoria Players Theatre Wednesday, August 5 through Sunday, August 9. The plot features an original story and a dilemma that’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. This latest Entertainment Report features the 2026 Illinois Shakespeare Festival and their production of the iconic American play, Our Town written by Thornton Wilder. The Festival produces 3 shows each season performed in repretoire which runs through August 2 in 2026 at the Ewing Cultural Center in Bloomington. The other two shows include Two Gentlemen of Verona and Romeo & Juliet. The Festival also produces a Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) throughout the season. This year’s show is Get, Set, Romeo and Juliet! written by local author Nancy Steele Brokaw which is performed most Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 am on the Ewing Cultural Center grounds.
