The Mandala Workshop was a great experience for the students held this past Saturday, August 8th, by artist and exhibitor Bart Vargas. A short presentation was held in the Preston Jackson Gallery before the workshop in the 3rd Floor Educational Classroom.

About the class:
Based on his travels to China, and his series of Mandala paintings, international artist Bart Vargas leads a workshop to paint your own Mandala painting. Through mark making and the exploration of positive and negative space, students will explore pattern, repetition and color theory, but most of all have fun! All materials are included.

Like artifacts from an era of extraordinary consumption and waste, Bellevue, Nebraska artist and educator Bart Vargas’ sculpture and paintings incorporate recovered local materials deemed unwanted or useless, including trash, recyclables and surplus items and then transform them into playful, approachable and thought-provoking objects.

Maligned books are used as medium to convey an assault on knowledge and the ideas contained within. Books stripped of content, destroyed beyond recognition, fragments of torn pages and the string that once bound them; evidence of aggressive censorship and conformity.
