✨Brianna Harris✨

What is your major?
My major is Finance.

What is your favorite part of being in Singers so far?
My favorite part about being in Singers is having the amazing opportunity to be surrounded by talented individuals who share a passion for music. Everyone uplifts one another and creates a supportive environment. Learning the music and hearing our collective effort come to life is a rewarding aspect of being in Singers.

What is your favorite piece that you’ve worked on with us and why?
My favorite piece that we have learned thus far is “They Are Mother”. The first time I heard this piece, I found it captivating. Singing this piece makes me feel excited, inspired, and the melodies create an emotional journey that resonates with me.

Who is an artist/composer that inspires you?
I find inspiration in many artists, but gospel artists tend to inspire me the most.

Do you have a favorite memory since joining Singers?
My favorite memory of joining Singers so far is going to FMEA in Tampa, Florida with UWF Singers. It was a wonderful experience to sing with my choir members and create memories together on the trip. Also, watching the Voctave concert was very cool.

If you could give any advice to anyone seeing this, what would it be?
My advice to anyone seeing this is to put your best effort into everything you do, engage in activities that have a positive influence on your well-being, and surround yourself with supportive people. Also, set goals and don’t be afraid to make mistakes because it’s a part of the journey.

Finally, tell us a fun fact about yourself!
A fun fact about me is that I like to read, travel, and spend time with my family.

This past week our UWF Singers toured on their way to Tampa for FMEA! They made a stop on the way at Lake Minneola High School and got to share what collegiate ensembles can be. The performance at FMEA was nothing short of phenomenal, and many tears were shed.

Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way, and we can’t wait to make more music alongside you this semester!

What is your major?
Music Performance

What is your favorite part of being in singers so far?
Getting the chance to sing with such a dedicated and talented group of people!

What is your favorite piece that we’re working on this semester and why?
My favorite piece this semester is the Nuñes Garcia Requiem. There is something so satisfying to me about how that piece comes together and it is so much fun to sing.

Who is an artist/ composer that inspires you?
Freddie Mercury. I will always admire the way he was able to command an audience and I can only hope to live up to that someday!

Do you have a favorite memory since joining singers so far?
Our recent beach photoshoot was lots of fun! It was cool to see everybody outside of the classroom setting. Wearing formal clothes in the ocean was definitely a first for me.

If you could give any advice to anyone who’s seeing this, what would it be?
Trust your gut. If something does not seem right or if you feel as if you are pushing yourself too hard trust that feeling!

Finally, tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I am a local singer-songwriter/performer! I play guitar in a band called the Nitty Gritties and I perform my own music at venues around town:)

What is your major?
I am majoring in Psychology

What is your favorite part of being in singers so far?
For me, just going to rehearsal every week is something I always look forward to. Also being surrounded by amazingly talented people who are very encouraging and supportive of one another.

What is your favorite piece that we’re working on this semester and why?
Chante Waste Hoksila is definitely at the top of my list of favorites! The story behind this piece is so moving, and anyone that hears it would not only be able to hear it, but feel as well.

Who is an artist/ composer that inspires you?
I can’t say I have a specific person in mind, but I’m open to all styles and genres of music.

Do you have a favorite memory since joining singers so far?
The concert was really fun! For it being my first concert, it was really cool to perform amazing pieces that we worked so hard on. We weren’t just using our voice for others to hear, but also share meaningful messages that others could either relate to or learn from.

If you could give any advice to anyone who’s seeing this, what would it be?
If you want to strive for something but not sure where to begin: Start where you’re at. Use what you’ve got. Do what you can.

What do you want to do with your major after you graduate? (Optional)

Finally, tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I like hanging out with friends and family. I also like meeting new people! I also played a cheerleader in an on stage version of High School Musical!! Go Wildcats!

A major thank you to Juliana Child who come to help us work on Chante Waste Hoksila! Her SSAA ensemble with the Pensacola Children’s Chorus previously performed this piece so she came to share her insight on this traditional Lakota-Sioux lullaby. Be sure to join us for our next concert on Thursday, November 21st at 7:30 PM so we can show you what we’re doing! (P.S. we usually sell out so try to get your tickets now rather than later)

Tickets available at 850.857.6285 and uwf.edu/cfpa

✨Student Spotlight ✨ This week is a very special person! Our current president: Abigail Morse!

1. What is your major?
My major is music education!

2. What is your favorite part of being in singers so far?
One of the best things about being a part of UWF Singers is the sense of family within the choir. I’ve made friendships here that I know will last a lifetime.

3. What is your favorite piece that we’re working on this semester and why?
My favorite piece this semester is Hanacpachap Cussicuinin. It’s be incredible diving deeper into this work and learning more about the Quechua culture and their language.

4. Who is an artist/ composer that inspires you?
Right now, I am inspired by Clara Schumann. As I prepare for my senior recital, my Clara Schumann set is a highlight for me. Her music is so fun to sing.

5. Do you have a favorite memory since joining singers so far?
My favorite memory since joining UWF Singers has to be our performance at FLACDA. It was such an incredible experience.

6. If you could give any advice to anyone who’s seeing this, what would it be?
My biggest piece of advice is to spread love always!!! And to give what you hope to recieve in return.

7. What do you want to do with your major after you graduate?
After graduation, I plan to teach music or direct a choir in a public school setting. My goal is to cultivate a deep love and appreciation for music in my students.

✨Student Spotlight✨ This week is another new member to the ensemble: Elyse Mallory

1. What is your major?

My major is Music and an Outside Field, minoring in Professional Education

2. What is your favorite part of being in singers so far?

I love the music we sing and the professional and high standards we are held to.

3. What is your favorite piece that we’re working on this semester and why?

My favorite pieces that we are singing are Ama Namin and Chante Waste Hoksila. These pieces are both emotional and powerful and I love the story and purpose behind them.

4. Who is an artist/ composer that inspires you?

I love good country music and one of my favorite artists is Dolly Parton. Country singer icon, Dolly has an inspiring rags to riches story and some of her music tells this story in powerful detail and heart touching music. My crazy dream is to sing in Nashville one day and meet Dolly Parton.

5. Do you have a favorite memory since joining singers so far?

I have only been in UWF Singers starting this semester so not yet, but I hope to make good memories in the coming years.

6. If you could give any advice to anyone who’s seeing this, what would it be?

Work hard and never pass up an opportunity. Sometimes you may not get the outcome you want, but putting yourself out there and being willing to do the work can teach you so much and that can be so valuable. When you work hard for something it is so much more rewarding than if it comes easy. Just remember that when things get tough.

7. What do you want to do with your major after you graduate? (Optional)

I would like to teach music, most likely private lessons, or pursue a career singing country music.

8. Finally, tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I travelled to France with a vocal group from my old college and had the opportunity to sing solo and group numbers in a cathedral and concert hall.
