What a weekend. ❤️
To everyone who showed up, danced, learned, laughed, worked, volunteered, taught, encouraged, supported, and helped make Kick It Old School what it was — THANK YOU.
First and foremost, thank you to every dancer who came through the doors. Some of you traveled a long way, some of you were right here at home, and thank you to all of you for taking a chance on a completely new event. You filled the floor, packed the workshops, asked questions, challenged yourselves, connected with new people, and brought the kind of energy we hoped this weekend would create.
To our incredible professional staff — thank you for sharing so much more than patterns and technique. You brought decades of experience, knowledge, stories, personality, and perspective into the room. The goal of Old School was always to create an environment where dancers could dig deeper into partnership, connection, musicality, and the things that make this dance special. You delivered that and so much more.
To our event staff, front desk team, DJs, MCs, competition staff, floor crew, hospitality crew, back-of-house operations, setup and teardown teams, and volunteers — events like this simply do not happen without you.
There are so many things guests never see: the early mornings, late nights, schedule changes, questions being answered, rooms being reset, equipment being moved, water being stocked, problems being solved, people being checked in, music being managed, floors being cleaned, and a hundred little details being handled before anyone even realizes they needed handling.
That work matters.
To everyone who jumped in because something needed to be done — even when it wasn't technically "your job" — thank you. That spirit is exactly what makes a dance community work.
And to everyone who supported this idea from the beginning, shared posts, invited friends, traveled with groups, encouraged us, offered advice, or simply told us, "You need to do this" — thank you for believing in it.
Kick It Old School started with a pretty simple idea:
Great dancing comes from great partnership.
This weekend proved that partnership goes far beyond what happens between two people on the dance floor. It happens between teachers and students, staff and volunteers, professionals and community members, friends, cities, and people willing to work together to build something special.
We are incredibly grateful.
Thank you for being part of the very first Kick It Old School West Coast Swing Training Weekend.
You helped make the first one something we will never forget.
Train hard. Dance harder. And never forget where great dancing comes from. ❤️
